Consumer Reports is out with its latest survey of cell phone service by its members, and AT&T is now ranked as the worst in the country, as well as the worst in Houston. T-Mobile is in 4th place.. what happened with you T-Mo?

Hard data from independent drive tests confirms AT&T has the nation’s fastest mobile broadband network with our nearest competitor 20 percent slower on average nationwide and our largest competitor 60 percent slower on average nationwide.  And, our dropped call rate is within 1/10 of a percent – the equivalent of just one call in a thousand – of the industry leader.”

What about cellphone:

The January issue also ranks smartphones and traditional cell phones, sorted by carrier. At the top of the list for smartphones:

• Apple’s iPhone 4 and Samsung’s Captivate tie for first place at AT&T with 76 points

• Motorola’s Droid X and Samsung’s Fascinate tie for  tops at Verizon with 75 points

• Samsung’s Epic 4G for Sprint, with 76 points

• Samsung’s Vibrant for T-Mobile, 76 points

The Nexus One is introduced by Google as the next step in Android evolution and the hardware found on is really impressive to say the least. As it was rumored, it packs a giant 3.7-inch AMOLED touchscreen with a resolution of 480×800 pixels. The handset is also featuring the Snapdragon chipset with a processor, clocked at 1GHz. It runs on the Android 2.1 operating system.

Just today, FCC passed the new Nexus One possible hitting to Verizon Wireless and/or Sprint. HTC PB99300 is the ID model for the Nexus One CDMA version.

Google Nexus One can have some 3G issues but it runs the latest Android OS 2.1. Google has just announced the availability of its new Google Earth compatible only with Android 2.1 phones, like the Nexus One. With a 1GHz processor, advanced 3D graphics, and Android 2.1, Nexus One packs a lot of performance in a thin package. Microsoft just has introduced today a new phone running Windows Mobile 7 called Windows Phone 7 Series.  This really is a completely new OS. New and completely refresh. The first Windows 7 phones will be available by holiday 2010,  first maybe AT&T then T-Mobile and Verizon Wireless.

Firefox Mozilla is a great browser for Windows and Mac OS. But when are they going to release a mobile phone version (besides Maemo on the Nokia N900). Now, according with  German Mozilla community website, Firefox is  preparing the first Beta (Fennec) for Android and it is going to be released  in February. Additionally, Google Labs has listed a Labs Night Meeting  Jan 26^th, where they will discuss their mobile strategy and demonstrate the FireFox for Android Beta.  We are just looking forward to see how the FireFox runs on the Android, later on, compare it with other browsers like Dolphin or Safari (iPhone).

Skype is already available on the iPhone and Android devices as the G1 or myTouch 3G. However, out there, are many  Blackberry users still waiting Skype to be released. According with Cnet, Skype hasn’t forgotten of Blackberry users. Back in May 2009, a beta version of Skype ( only available for some Blackberry users ) was released. That version had some problems with SMS, or transfering files. Now a better version would be release eventually. We just need to wait and wait. Come one Skype, as a Blackberry user, we want to make VoiP calls too!.

Today, Google  finally confirmed the Nexus One. This phone have been already on the network for a while. This is the first phone sold exclusively from Google. It features av3.7-inch AMOLED display, 1GHz Snapdragon processor, compass, GPS, accelerometer, light and proximity sensor, 5 megapixel camera with LED flash, 3.5mm headphone jack, and a multicolored LED under the trackball, two mics onboard, one on the bottom and one on the back, for the purpose of noise cancellation , and the phone is naturally running the brand new Android 2.1.

The phone is available today off contract with a T-Mobile compatible 3G frequencies  for $529 unlocked, shipping to the US, UK, Singapore and Hong Kong, or with a two year T-Mobile US contract for $179 (both with free overnight shipping in the US). Most surprisingly, the phone is also headed to Verizon this Spring, and Vodafone will score the device eventually as well.
