Internet addicts who think BlackBerry’s are just a hold-over until they get home are in luck: Chrysler announced that select 2009 model cars will be able to connect to WiFi in their cars while on the road through 3G networks. Uconnect web, a branch of their Uconnect system, will be the newest innovation in their lineup, bringing you internet wherever you go, granted for a monthly fee.

Chrysler did not announce which of the networks the car will connect to, but we can assume it will be either AT&T, Sprint, or Verizon as T-Mobile is just now getting started on their 3G network in big cities. They also did not announce the price difference the Uconnect Web system would cost, but we can assume it will be an additional couple thousand dollars, as upgrading to an in-dash GPS system costs that much.

For those of you who may not want to purchase a brand new car just to get mobile WiFi, you can also choose routers such as the Cradlepoint, which will allow you to plug in your 3G-enabled data card or phone and share that connection through WiFi (for a monthly fee through your carrier). I have this setup and I personally recommend it if you have a compatible 3G phone or data card.
