T-Mobile USA has become the first mobile operator to offer Square payment readers to its customers, allowing smartphone owners on its networks to buy the payment accessory direct from its stores starting today. The Square mobile reader, a smartphone accessory with a card reader that you can plug into the headphone jack of most Android devices.

“Small business customers are looking for a partner that will help them navigate the sometimes overwhelming and confusing wireless experience and provide the biggest bang for their buck,” said Bruce McGregor, senior analyst with Current Analysis. “With their emerging portfolio of small business solutions, T-Mobile is taking the right steps to better cater to customers’ needs for increased productivity via their mobile services.”

The Square devices won’t be available in all T-Mobile stores, but small business owners can get them from select stores in California, Connecticut, Florida, Massachusetts, Maine, North Carolina, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Texas, Virginia and Washington state.

AT&T and T-Mobile USA have fill up a file requesting the US FCC for its approval for the proposed $1 billion worth of transfer in wireless airwaves. T-Mobile will receive AWS spectrum from AT&T in 128 markets, a $3 billion cash breakup fee and a seven year UMTS roaming agreement.

T-Mobile has said it needs additional spectrum to keep pace with its larger competitors. It is the only major national carrier with no plan to roll out the faster fourth-generation mobile broadband service known as LTE, and it lost 849,000 contract customers in last year’s first nine months.

Tom Sugrue, T-Mobile’s senior vice president said “This additional spectrum will help meet the growing demand for wireless broadband services,” from a email statement from the Wall Street Journal.

Walmart has just announced a new Unlimited Family plan from T-Mobile. This plan offers unlimited talk, text and web at the low price of $45 (for the first line) and $35 for each additional line. Until Tuesday, Walmart’s plan did not offer unlimited web access, now it will, but it will only give you 3G speed for the first 250 MB of data, the rest?.. EDGE? Those who sign up before March 16 will be able to enjoy 5 GB of 3G data per month, while those who sign up after said date will have to make due with 250 MB. After reaching the data limit, users will be throttled to lower speeds.

Press

According to a recent Harris Interactive study, 65% of smartphone users said they use their smartphone’s picture sharing capability most when connecting with family and friends. That’s just one reason why T-Mobile and Walmart recently made their Walmart Family Mobile plan better than ever – adding Unlimited Web to their already great offer of Unlimited Talk and Text. Rolling onto shelves now, the new Walmart Family Mobile Unlimited Talk, Text and Web plan is only $45 per month for the first line and $35 per month for additional lines and is available at Walmart stores nationwide and on Walmart.com.

Additionally, 44% of first-time smartphone buyers in 2012 say the cost of the data plan associated with a smartphone is the most influential reason they have not purchased a smartphone before. For the first time, this monthly postpaid, no-annual contract plan is offering Unlimited Web service, providing full access to Web surfing, data and social media for all lines on the account and is one of the best value options available on any national carrier. Walmart Family Mobile was designed with families in mind, and offers the most affordable way to enjoy high-quality postpaid 3G service. To encourage families to get connected sooner, customers activating the new plan now until March 16th will enjoy the first 5GB per month per line at up to 3G speeds until March 31st. Customers activating after March 16th can enjoy the first 250MB per month per line at up to 3G speeds.

For more information about the Walmart Family Mobile Unlimited Talk, Text and Web plan, please visit www.walmartfamilymobile.com or www.myfamilymobile.com
