Motorola i9 hitting Sprint-Nextel

By: T-Marco October 22nd, 2008

Today FCC just passed the new Motorola i9 or Motorola Cabo for Sprint Nextel. We though that it will be the Motorola i890 but seams to be a just i9.

The new Motorola operates on iDEN and CDMA network from Sprint. Features:

3.1 megapixel with auto focus and 8X digital zoom

Sensitize buttons on the front

Mototalk

GPS with navigation

MP3 player

MMS

SMS

and Stereo Bluetooth

Stay tuned for more information about my new upgrade… yes!

Simply put, if it was going to be a hybrid, it would be given an “ic” moniker. Instead, it’s merely an “i” meaning iDEN only. This is the first of the fabled Harmony line where Motorola was commissioned by Nextel to make a 4G handset, and Motorola created the idea of an iDEN/WiMAX phone….iDEN for voice and PTT, WiMAX for any and all data applications.

Now, given what the phone should be capable of, this will be the THINNEST iDEN phone ever. It will have 2 large screens (the external one being a large touch screen), and a pretty decent camera (to say the least). We’ll have to wait and see just how soon this phone gets released…and if it will indeed use WiMAX for data.

But to those that claim it’s ugly…I suppose those are the same people that think that the LG Lotus is sexy. UGH!

i wish Motorola would get the memo that the RAZR is dead. too bad it’s still the hottest selling phone according to the NPD. quite amazing that the design has lasted this long with that kind of popularity, but damn… i wish Motorola would start innovating.

i’m keeping my fingers crossed for their upcoming Android powered device, but something tells me it’ll just be a Q9 smartphone with Android loaded on it.

To the guy wanting to know about unlocking the phone. There is a website called unlockitnow.com that i have used and they e-mail the unlock code usually within an hour or 2. The prices are reasonable and i have never had a problem with them.

I finally switched from sprint to boost, i cant belive i got raped as long as i did by sprint. I had the ic902 from sprint and the camera was very good, why does my new i9 have such a blue tinted picture with not very good pixels, for being a 3.2 mega pixel, it sure does suck compare to my ic902 with just the 2 mega pixels. or is this phone have something faulty wrong with it. let me know guys, thanks

    Jesse-
Did you make sure to remove all of the protective films off of the camera lens?

for the person complaining about the picture quality (jesse)…..i just got the new i9 and i was wondering the same thing …if you havent yet take the back of the phone off….then strip off the little blue sticker protecting the lense…there is also one on the flash….be sure to peel that off as well

I bet no one will like! Why? It looks like the same design as the Stature! Another low DC volume flop!
Is Motorola trying to tame it’s image that potty mouths have tainted by turning down the volume on all it’s phones??? Stay tuned we will see….

Sounds great! How recently did you pick up this device?

  18. eulien on September 24th, 2009 12:01 am

I'm pretty sure that it is the same thing as the Stature… the full name of this phone is the Motorola i9 Stature. Don't bite my head off if I'm wrong, but from what I've read, they are the same thing. I just ordered one in red from Boost, I hear complaints about text messaging on the iDEN network, so we'll see how that works out, I guess… any reassurances to make me feel better?

I was right it’s the same problem child I thought was a hybrid only to find out it has a small speaker at the bottom that I had to hold close to my ear to hear! I took it back with a grin.
Trust me I could not drive a big rig over 10 years with bad ears.
I think Motorola is trying to squeeze all these electronic circuits into a small space and down sizing the speaker too and it just won’t work.
Next time ya in a Sprint store try the little yellow Nextel phone and then try the i9 and get back to me and tell me what you hear.
