It Has Begun… The G1 has many issues

The calls are beginning to pour in to T-Mobile’s Customer care with regards to their hot new flagship but it’s not for a good reason. T-Mobile is beginning to get reports of major issues in messaging, call quality, battery life, and the overall build of the phone amongst other things. The biggest issue clogging up customer care is that many people are randomly unable to send messages. As expected, the battery life of the G1 is not very good, but about 2 hours of HEAVY use and it’s out… really htc, you can do better than that! Lastly, reports are slowly flowing in to care about the actually build of the phone. After several slides of the phone, it actually begins to squeak a lot! Let’s hear your comments… have you been having these issues?

Update: I just noticed the mighty squeakiness on my phone! NOOOOOOO!

    i love the phone too, by far the Best T-Mobile phone i’ve used and im sure most of the issues i mentioned will be fix asap but i just thought that the people having these issues should know that they are not alone.

    Well…. that’s why I didn’t get the phone, and the fact it was a lil too much for me.

    Varying build quality might be more accurate. My back cover has a lot of give, especially by the camera button, feels >very< loose and creaks when touched, which, because of the location is quite often. Makes the phone feel cheep in use.

    A coworker got hers today, but it doesn’t have this issue; hers is very snug, no creaking. I put her battery cover on mine, and problem solved — if only I could have kept it :)

    I can’t get G1 right now because a lot of functions are missing
    ability to quit applications
    no PAM
    bt is next to nothing
    bad battery
    no streaming support (other than .sdp)
    no Adobe flash support

    i bought one just to check it out in person and give it a long-term test before making any judgments… i had made a snap judgment with the iPhone, assuming the softkeys would be impossible for me to use, but the autocorrect feature on it is so accurate that it became livable after buying one recently and giving it a fair shake.

    as for the G1, the hardware is just horrible. the OS is awesome IMO, with some of the android market apps being very, very cool and never able to be ported for use on the iphone. but with such abysmal hardware with a nearly unusable keyboard, poorly designed slider that will be overused until a softkeyboard is released, and a useless trackball that only gets in the way, i just couldnt live with the thing.

    add to it the pure ugliness of the device. i’m not the type to lay my phone down at the dinner table just for people to feed my ego, but damn… the phone just isnt pretty.

    at least it’s all about the software, but too bad T-Mobile shot itself in the foot by pushing to have an obvious dev device released just to try and capture the holiday season. doing so may spell the premature end of android just because the first run hardware is just so bad… the average consumer from this day on will associate android with this failed choice of hardware and kill future sales of the OS no matter what device it’s placed on.

    Ummm….People People….we all have our opinons about the G1 ….I have 1 an all these problems that u people speak of ii have yet to experience….there are things that the G1 has…that the Iphones does…juss like every other fone that comes out so Hush wit all the bad vibes…its the 1st one and I’m sure wen the next gen comes out they will Kno juss what needs to be updated….!!

    I opened a apple I phone in the past and I’ve also owned a blackberry pearl and lastly a sidekick. Out of all the phones the g1 is by far my favorite. No problems with it at all knock on wood. If you want a good tmobile phone I highly suggest it and with a 179 dollar price tag how could you go wrong.

    From day one, I have had email issues with the G1. I had a Blackberry Pearl, which I loved, but decided to upgrade to the G1 the day it came out. I keep getting a connection error 95% of the time when I try to downlaod my email from my email account (not Gmail). It is hit or miss on whether I get my email. I have now started forwarding my emails to the Gmail account just to get them downloaded.

    The other issue is with my bluetooth connection. I have my phone set to sync up with my car everyday when i get in. Only problem is that whenever I am on the phone and I get another call, it kicks me off bluetooth, and it doesn’t show who is calling. I also have several missed calls because my phone never rings.

    I got mine last month and I’ve had major problems with sending emails, especially pics, which don’t get delivered, or get delivered weeks later. and the pics I email almost always are so corrupted the files can’t be opened.
    Pluse the browser is super slow in loading webpages. Like 2 to 30 mintues to load one page. Total rip off. It’s already cost me $200 plus $80 for the first month, and will cost another $300 to cancel. I’m sick about it.

    I am a rep for T-mobile so I am speaking not only as a telecommunications rep but also as a consumer ,everyone knows sometimes you buy a phone it may or may not experience issues.It really all depends on how well you treat and take care of your phone but even then there is a chance you can get a lemon every n ow (just like with every other cellular provider)and then which is why T-mobile kindly gives you a 14 day grace period and also provides you a year warrenty on the phone if you experience any issues (on the phones part ) not including water damage.

    i got this phone today from my dad he unlocked it for me so i could put my orange contract sim in.. it works fine but my signal has a cross and says no signal.. can any1 help ?

    I actually have found with my G1 which I have had since Oct. 21st of 2008 (the day it was released) is that the battery discharged after a couple of hours but if you let it go completely dead and fully charge it while its off, you will actually get about 12 hours or more out of the battery…called reconditioning. Now I have found that I have these dots in between texting (i’m guessing the period button is malfunctioning) and when I’m not texting the dots just keep going in my calling area through the home screen and on and on and on. I shut it off to stop it other than that, I can’t even text and the dots just keep going and going and going and……..any issues like that with any of you?

    and the G1 and i must admit i like the g1 better due to the feel of the phone

    I must admit, the G1 is as step up from the t-mo dash that i previously was using, but i wish i would have read up a little more on some of the issues that can occur with the phone. My biggest issue is that it has become impossible to recieve my yahoo emails and in a spand of 7 days i have only had 1 email actually pushed through. That sucks when you run a business where email is an important factor. I am giving it one more week and if it fails you will be able to purchase this phone on Craigs List for about $150…No joke! Iphone here i come.

    I just broke contract. I spend too much time on phone w/Tech Support. Phone was good when 1st got, then went downhill quickly. Lost contacts *Was told when bought that this would NEVER HAPPEN because it goes by gmail acct! Also, calls drop- so even talking to tech support! When call back, have to start from scratch. PITA! Not sure why they bother to send usb cable, cannot use to load anything important to/from PC… Android programs are AWSOME! Problem is, some are ‘test’ so, when you have to ‘Factory Reset’ you lose EVERYTHING and some of the android programs are no longer available! Plus, have to re-load again… I am unable to delete shortcuts off my main screen (can add, but cannot get rid of). Tech support tells me once a week I need to ‘keep phone on then pull out battery, wait 10 seconds and put battery back in’. Taking off back cover is a PITA too. Does Apple iPhone need to have a battery reset every week to run properly? T-mobile offers ‘upgrades’ if you pay through the teeth. Geeze, I just spent a small fortune for this phone, I was hoping I would get more than a couple months of ‘happiness’ with the phone. BTW with enough light, I have taken some Amazeing pics with my phone. I lucked out on that feature. Too bad I had to shut it off because too many issues and frustrations! It would give me 2 bars in the house, yet, I could not make a call. Like other post, I too would not get a ring on many calls *yet the voicemail would beep! WTF? sent pics from phone to email – looked like sent o.k. yet open email, and try open pic – nothing there… Sent this to tech support – no answers/reasons on this issue either. Anyone want a phone? Still have 1-1/2 years left on plan! Pretty sad when the basic phone feature does not work….
