Iphone 3G vs T-Mobile G1 speed test
CNET today made a nice speed test comparing the iPhone 3G with T-Mobile G1. Both handsets run different web browsers and work with different carrier networks (iPhone 3G on AT&T and the T-Mobile G1 on, ……T-Mobile, duh), so there are some variables that just can’t be accounted for in this test.
And the winner is?……the G1!, yes!. The G1 took 22 seconds in load completely the CNet website, while the iPhone 3G took 30 seconds. This is not a big difference but we can say the G1 is faster, surfing, compared with the iPhone.

the testing location is in NYC
ATT 3G is bad here
I’m not surprised T-Mobile 3G wins, because I did similar test, and using tethering

0.36 latency

two things attribute to these results:
1. the iphone 3g is UMTS HSDPA only, so it’s theoretical max is only 3.5Mbit/S compared to the G1’s HSDPA and HSUPA compatibility that has a theoretical max of 7.2Mbit/S.
2. T-Mobile’s network is much more mature and fully vetted as they’ve been working on it in the background for years due to their inability to launch until recently. you wont see their network come apart at the seams like you saw when the iPhone was released.

I am on my G1 right now and it took maybe 3 seconds for this website to load my girlfriend got the new iphone 3G and my phone is a little bit faster even after I have downloaded tons of stuff, she hasn’t even put hers on itunes or downloaded anything on it.
