Default Can’t get enough sleep? Blame your cell phone

*Interesting Study

New Delhi: Have you not been able to get enough sleep of late?

You can blame your mobile phone for wrecking your sleep.

According to a research published by MIT, if you use your cell phone before going to bed, it may take you longer to reach deeper stages of sleep and get a sound sleep. The radiation from your mobile phone may activate the brain’s stress system making you more alert and more focused, that too at a time when you want to wind down and fall asleep.

“The study indicates that during laboratory exposure to 884 MHz wireless signals, components of sleep, believed to be important for recovery from daily wear and tear, are adversely affected,” says consultant, Critical care & Sleep, Dr Rajesh Chawla.

The research further claims if you are suffering from headaches and feel confused all the time, you shouldn’t get confused because again it may be your mobile phone, which could be triggering the headache. “There should be more tests conducted o animals to find out the ill-effects of radiation from mobile phones. But my personal experience is that if I talk for long hours on the phone I get a headache,” says Dr Chawla.

Much debate and much research have gone into the effects of radiation emitting from mobile phones. As much as £7.5 million pounds have been spent on it so far. While there is still no conclusive evidence on the ill effects, it is advisable to take caution and make it a point to keep your mobile phones away from your bedroom, at least at night.

Hmmm very interesting. I usually talk on the phone for at least half an hour before I go to sleep and haven't been having too much trouble sleeping....I never really have.

I usually put my phone on my bed, as it works as alarm clock (an SMS wakes me up at 0630), and I don't have trouble of sleeping

I used to keep the cell phone inside the pillow case and under my head. Used as an alarm in the morning. I slept fine. The wife however was bothered by the beep when the phone would search for a signal now and then. I declined to turn off the alert simply because it didn't bother me. Then it became me or the phone. No wonder she had headaches in the morning.
