To resurrect its profile — and profits — in the United States, Nokia Corp. has pledged to make inroads with each of the major carriers. At Verizon Wireless, enter “The Dark Knight,” which seeks to capitalize on the summer release of another cinematic triumph from Hollywood by the same name.
(Set aside, for the moment, speculation on the precise demographic that will be pleased to flash a handset linked to a comic book hero. After the movie-linked handset launches, a “standard edition” handset will be offered in blue-and-silver styling.)
“Verizon Wireless and Nokia team up to fight for Gotham City,” with the Nokia 6205, the companies said today.
The clamshell style 6205 will be available Sunday and, the companies assure the market, the “mysterious black” device will sport a “subtle” “The Dark Knight” emblem — perhaps assuaging any concerns that aging comic book fans might have about the social repercussions of toting it.
The device will sell for $70 after an “online instant rebate” and two-year service contract.
The handset will offer Verizon’s Vcast Music services, VZ Navigator, the Get It Now content store, Web-browsing and a 1.3 megapixel camera.
