Lightbulb Getting around the contract

My sister wants to get a cell phone but our parents don't want to add another 2 year contract to their current plan. My sister came up with a genius way to get around the contract issue. She told my mom that she can just buy an unlocked phone and then get T-Mobile to program it to work my parent's current plan. Is this a loophole that T-Mobile doesn't know about? I mean, my parents can always get her Cricket Wireless too.

No, that won't work. You need to get a T-Mobile SIM card whether you use a TMo phone or not. That will always be $35 activation fee. If your sister is going to be added it to an existing family plan, then your parents can add her for one year. Each line on family plans have their own contracts/expiration dates. Call 611 from a TMo phone.

i guess... prepaid?
haha
there is no contract, but you pay a lot more for your minutes than post-paid (when you look at it on a month to month basis in respect to minutes used to amount paid.
