EDGE troubleshooting Hi all,
I got a Motorola W490 a few months ago after some research because it was a reasonably-priced phone that did tethering and EDGE over bluetooth. For a while, I was using the T-Zones, which was painfully slow but was able to load pages over the proxy. I just upgraded to the full T-Mobile Internet, and now, while all ports are open and I can use all sorts of programs over the cell network, it's still really painfully slow. Much slower than dialup -- it takes about a minute to load Google, and telnet traffic has about a 10 second lag.
Everything I'm reading says this is really not normal. So, I'm trying to figure out what I'm doing wrong. I'm in an area that by all accounts should be fully EDGE-capable (New York City and Philadelphia), and I seem to be getting speeds lower than basic GPRS, if I understand it correctly.
So, what are the likely culprits? I'm on a Mac, tethered via Bluetooth using scripts and settings that I got by following other people's instructions, my phone seems to be working properly otherwise, and gets full signal strength when I'm trying to use it for data. |
