How to get unlock code for Cingular V557
T-Mobile Tech SupportDiscuss How to get unlock code for Cingular V557 in the T-Mobile Specific Topics forums; I was able to retain my work cell phone when I left my last job. It is a Cingular V557. ...
I was able to retain my work cell phone when I left my last job. It is a Cingular V557. How can I go about getting this unlocked. Do I call Cingular/ATT seeing as I am not a customer of theirs?
Can T-Mobile CC do this for me?
If I have to I could call Cingular/ATT and "pretend" I am still with the company. I was their IT person, my name is surely in the database linked to the account. I made requests and changes all the time. I have the Account Numbers/Password. But I'd rather not go this route.

T-Mobile CS can only give you an unlock code for one of the phones they provide, not one from another carrier. I believe if you get ATT to do it, they charge $30 to unlock. And i think that they'll only do it if you are a customer of theirs though. I'll see what i can find out

My opinions/views/comments are just that, MINE, no one else's, not T-Mobile's, or any other carrier, any of their dealers, or any manufacturers.

You can try giving at&t's international support line a call at 1-916-843-4685 and request the code. Tell them that you are traveling overseas or to Europe and are going to need to use a foreign sim card. If they turn down your request because you are not a current customer of theirs you can do what I did in the following link to request the code from T-Mobile, if you have been a customer for more than 90 days. I was able to get the codes for all of my Cingular phones (V551, V557, V190) without getting charged. http://www.t-mobilesignal.com/forum/...obile-175.html

You've gotten them to unlock a non-T-Mobile phone? Wow, i tried once and they sent me an email saying "Unfortunately blah blah blah we can't unlock your phone" <--pretty much. Maybe i need to be a little more aggressive with them next time.

Yes. My first request usually came back with a we are sorry rejection notice. But I always emailed them back (politely) and informed them that it was possible for them to get the code. Within 14 days of the request I did receive the code from them. My last one was the MOTO V190 a few months ago..... I don't know if T-Mobile has changed their practices of giving out the codes or not, but it doesn't hurt to try.
