Hey gang. I can speak with authority that T-Mobile doesn't care (and as far as I know, doesn't know) where the call originated from if it is WiFi/UMA/TF-M - No roaming charges because you aren't roaming. Roaming means you're registered on a foreign site. No foreign site, then no foreign carrier. No foreign carrier means we don't get billing information passed along, so you never get charged for it. We can't promise a UMA-->GSM handoff while roaming, international or otherwise, but it's a small price to pay for unlimited calls no matter where you travel.
I use that aspect of the service often as a save offer, especially for military customers facing overseas duty. "Stay in touch with the folks back home, w/o LD or roaming, and talk all you want for $9.99 a month? Why wouldn't you?"
Re: Confirmation that T-Mobile HotSpot @Home can be used OVERSEAS?
So I called and was told even if i'm connected to a wifi network in Mexico that I will still get charged .39 cents a minute. The Hotspot@home Talk forever is nationwide only according to the Tmobile website. I will be at Club Med and they are listed as a Hotspot on the Tmobile site for .07 cents a minute. I'm very confused about this. I guess I will need to switch to the regular Hotspot service before I go.

You got some bad data there, friend, and I apologize. .39 cents per minute? That's the LD rate calling from the USA to Mexico. So yes, if you're on UMA and call to Mexico you wuld be charged 39 cpm, regardless of the country you're in. If you're in New York on UMA calling Cozumel, it's 39 cents. If you're in Cozumel on UMA, calling Cozumel, it's 39 cents. If you're in Cozumel on UMA calling New York, it's a regular call. If you're in Cozumel on GSM, and call anywhere, it's 1.49 per min. The roaming rate for Club Med at 7 cents per minute is a data roaming rate for regular hotspot service, NOT TalkForever. It may or may not apply to UMA calls, so YMMV there. I understand that the website states that it is national, but as was mentioned earlier in the thread, it helps avoid confusion, such as this.
To recap:
When you are connected using UMA, all your calls are billed as originating from the USA, and no Roaming charges will apply for your call. Long distance will be billed according to the country you dial to, just like you were sitting at home making the call.
Call to Mexico from within the USA or on UMA anywhere in the world: up 39 cents per minute (a discount feature is availble)
Call to USA while in Mexico on GSM: $1.49 per minute
Call to USA while in Mexico on UMA: Deducts from plan minutes w/o additional cost.

Yeah, I'm sure I did. I have had conflicting statements from Tmobile when it concens this. First I was told that it would be free as long as I was connected to UMA and today I was told it didn't matter. I'll just see what happens when I get there. As long as I don't have to pay $1.49 like I did last year I will be happy.
Re: Confirmation that T-Mobile HotSpot @Home can be used OVERSEAS?
I have no idea why all the reps aren't trained for H@H/Talk Forever !!! OFC you wouldn't be charged overseas and why would it cost data? Meh... ridiculous. Yeah, have fun over there with your non-roaming calling off of Wifi
Re: Confirmation that T-Mobile HotSpot @Home can be used OVERSEAS?
Just a heads up, T-Mobile delayed the Talk Forever launch of Hotspot@Home until June/July. Official confirmation will hit all retail channels tomorrow. (04/02)

So some more bad info from Tmobile. Now i'm being told that I will "most likely" pay standard roaming rates while in Mexico and connected to UMA($1.49 a minute). I'm very upset that I can't seem to get a straight answer from them. Also, now on the Hotspot international location page this has appeared.
"The T-Mobile HotSpot @Home add-on service for unlimited, U.S. Wi-Fi calling does not provide unlimited calling from T-Mobile International HotSpot locations."

T-Mobile doesn't provide the roaming onto their international hotspots like they do here in America... like if you walk into Starbucks, you can use the wi-fi even if you aren't subscribed to the wi-fi for laptops plan because you are using uma... but T-Mobile won't do that internationally.
The thing is, if you go to say, McDonalds internationally (with free wi-fi), your phone is going to create a VPN tunnel to a "tower" in the USA which just so happens to be domestic calling.
Could T-Mobile know if you're international... yes
Will they?... no
