Default AT&T's UNOFFICIAL "Get More 1000 Plus Promotional Plan"...Will T-Mobile Respond?

Although AT&T/Cingular has had similar "unofficial", "unpublished" plans like this for a while, recently this one is generating more "buzz" than previous ones (for some reason):

INTEL_NTN1000UM/NW = 1000 Anytime Minutes + Unlimited N&W + Unlimited M2M = $39.99/mo.

Although I really don't like AT&T/Cingular as a company, I must admit that this plan IS actually a PRETTY DANG GOOD offering from AT&T/Cingular. Maybe it's because they feel "some" heat from T-Mobile's resurrected Get More 1000 Plus Promotional Plan and Sprint's SERO.

Whatever it is, I wish T-Mobile included UNLIMITED M2M in their individual plans (instead of offering it as an add-on for $6.99 more). IMO I would think that would make T-Mobile's plans "more competitive" and eliminate a MAJOR "excuse" people use to justify going with AT&T (or other competitors)!

Think T-Mobile will ever add UNLIMITED M2M (or something else) to sweeten their individual plans? Or is "Get More 1000 Plus Promotional" as sweet as it gets?

if so, I am tempted.....

Do you have to call to get this?

I ask because I work for a public university and we get a discount with Cingular.....signal penetration for the 850mhz band is very good too....I might have to consider them.

I'm not sure, but from what I've heard through the grapevine, yes, you have to call them... BUT it's VERY YMMV since the few that did get this plan, from what I've heard, were actually ALREADY EXISTING AT&T/CINGULAR CUSTOMERS, and had to basically spend 30 minutes (or more) on the phone with an AT&T CSR and "convince/persuade" them to offer the plan... all WITHOUT letting up they know about the plan. They had to find an "excuse/reason/argument" for everything the CSR pointed out to them until the CSR put them on hold (probably to speak with a supervisor or something), and came back and offered the plan. You might be lucky and get this plan as a "new" AT&T customer, but I don't know if that will work or not. Apparently this plan is used as one of AT&T's rare retention offers... and only for GOOD customers (probably).

Yeah, but if you think about it, T-mo's Get More 1000 Plus Promotional Plan was also a retention-only offer AFTER they discontinued it a while ago... but BEFORE they brought it back for the general public again!

And AT&T only does 2-year contracts now - whereas I can get this promo with a 1-year contract (and a free phone AND a free router).

AT&T has done this before. They like to counter T-Mobile at promotions, but the damage can already have been done, since T-Mobile has had this plan for almost 2 months now.

it appears iPhones strategy failed (only rob Sprint due to "excessive CS calls" issue), even the share don't drop at all
in addition, iPhone reveals the network weakness on at&t (2G network jam)
