Yeah, 3G must not be coming anytime soon, since T-Mobile would want to launch some phones to go with its launch. BoyGenius would have seen or heard about some phones for T-Mobile, since he gets the phones that AT&T will launch even before they are officially launched.

I have a good relationship with our resident field technician and he has mentioned to me on numerous occasions that T-mobile is ready to deploy the service. Even to the point that he has alluded that the Towers are even ready to go, they just have to be turned on and tested.

At this point I think its all about the end of the year, I don't think Q3 is a likely scenario at this point.

I thought T-Mobile has the spectrum, but they are not yet finished in some markets to officially launch it.

T-Mobile USA Secures Rights from FCC for Auctioned Spectrum

BELLEVUE, Wash., Nov. 30, 2006 – T-Mobile USA, Inc. confirms that on Nov. 29, the FCC granted the company 120 spectrum licenses covering the continental United States, Hawaii, Puerto Rico/U.S. Virgin Islands, Alaska and major markets including New York City, Los Angeles and Chicago. The granting of these licenses fulfills T-Mobile’s winning bids during the recent FCC Advanced Wireless Services (AWS) auction.

"T-Mobile is pleased to receive its AWS license grants from the FCC. The agency is to be commended for moving so rapidly to award these licenses,” said Robert Dotson, president and CEO, T-Mobile USA. “I want to thank FCC Chairman Kevin Martin, the FCC Commissioners and the staff of the Wireless Bureau for their successful efforts in making this important spectrum available."

This acquisition of spectrum has doubled T-Mobile’s spectrum position in the top 100 U.S. markets, which will facilitate a planned 2007 commercial rollout of 3G next-generation-network services to enhance core voice services, and deliver applications that will take consumer-based PC functionality mobile.

let's guess which phone will be the first 3G phone upon launch (or months before launch)
I guess it should be nokia 6282, which was supposed to be US version of 6280 (no front cam)
Cingular was supposed to sell, but end up abandoned it
nokia just need to re-program 3G RF from 850/1900 to 1700/1900, and keep 2G intact, and it's ready to go

Any idea when T-Mobile will roll out 3G in NorCal? Specifically north of San Francisco and Sacramento. AT&T Affiliate Edge Wireless provides the GSM up here where I live, and is going to be deploying 3G very soon.

I am guessing that your area will be in line with the national launch. Chances are T-mobile has all the apparatus set up and ready for deployment, and they are just waiting for the government to clear the frequencies. My best guess from reading everything going around the internet would be before 08'

I think some member can invite this guy, he posted a nokia Nseries model will be available for T3 in selected markets (heh, NYC is one of them, here I come, sorry sonyericsson)

On the N series, a version will be availble from T-Mobile for test marketing purposes in select 3G markets by the end of this year, however it will not ship in time for the launch of T3 and probably will not be a launch phone. Look for some select users around Bellvue carrying the devices. I don't have any other details as of yet but if I get more, you know I'll post them.

Also, the T409 and 6086 will be available from T-Mobile on June 28th. Promos start on July 4th. A special discounted rate will be provided to customers who are early adopters and the price on a two year contract will be $50.00. Routers will also be available for free after rebate, two brands. Just thought you all would like to know, Hotspot at Home is here at last.

Is there a cell phone carrier that has 3G for prepaid? If not, maybe T-Mobile could get that, and be the first with prepaid 3G.

I have no idea what the answer to your question is, but that is a good idea!

TMoUK has 3G phones on pre-paid so there is definitely the possibility.

3G really makes the difference. In the UK they have just finished their TV trial and it will be fully available from 1st July. We have 9 channels available and it cost no more than $2 / day.

Great for dipping into.
