I currently have an LG EnV I am fixing to buy a Palm Treo, is it necesary for me to change my plan? I dont want to have to I told my mother it would not mess our plan up. can I run my Treo on the same plan as my enV? No, it wont extend my contract. I am getting the treo off of eBay. I am just wanting to know if my existing plan will work or if I HAVE to buy some data services. Because I dont want to. Also, I am not interested in email or anything on it. I just want it for basic calls and texting and the calendar features and other basic apps on the phone. No internet. I was just wondering if the current calling and text messaging plan that we have will be able to be used on the treo. I hope you can tell me what I want to hear?

If I'm correct, RIM is the only company that requires data packages to be purchased along with voice plans (due to BlackBerries automatically syncing with their server). You CAN block data sessions on every other PDA or smartphone, BUT you WON'T be able to receive PIX/FLIX messages as PDAs/smartphones initiate data sessions to send/receive PIX/FLIX messages. Is the $24.99-$44.99 extra worth switching devices? Or no PIX/FLIX? Tough choice to make my friend!

RIM = Research in Motion. Also known as the makers of the BlackBerry. You will have to change to one of the smartphone plans, but they include: 1) Data Block (No internet/email/MMS) 2) 10MB Plan (Practically Worthless) 3) 5GB Data Plan SMS messages are not charged as data, they will go through with the data block on. |

You have to get a smartphone option because the Treo is a smartphone. There's a reason why it costs more than other phones because it does so much more than a regular phone. |

So all I have to do is basically keep my original plan and just put a data block on it correct? Then I wont be out any money and I have the same monthly bill. Yes this phone does more that is why I got it, but alot of the applications that I got it for, data is not needed. I dont need it for email and internet, that is what computers are for. I did it for stuff like calls, text messaging, calendar, word, excel and powerpoint. Thats all I really need.

Sorry to bug you but let me get this all straight one last time,
I call them up to switch the ESN Tell them I want to keep my original calling plan but I want a data block placed on the phone. In this form, I still keep my regular calling plan and SMS text messaging plan and the price is still the same per month and I still get my treo. No switching to a smartphone plan is necesarry correct. Just clearing this up because the phone will be here next week! |
