So if this happens, will that mean the current sidekick wont work with 3g? I'm thinking of buying my gf a sidekick for christmas, but if 3g is coming out, I might as well wait right.

Does T-Mobile plan on using the same bands as AT&T to deploy their 3G service, or are they deploying them on the bands they purchased from the government?

They plan to use the bands they purchased from the government. I'm glad, as I know that here in Oklahoma City, many of my friends who have AT&T have complained about seriously degraded call quality in the last few months (ever since AT&T turned on 3G in our area). I can't guarantee that it is a result of their turning on 3G, but if they are using their existing bandwidth to operate both 2G and 3G, it wouldn't surprise me.

At least this way, T-Mobile won't be crowding their existing bandwidth on 1900. If anything, they will hopefully move some of their traffic to their new 1700 band as people buy new 3G handsets. That should make their 2G 1900 bandwidth be even "more roomy."

EDIT: AT&T is 850 only in Oklahoma City. I believe that is the case for both their 2G and 3G services. The new 3G panels on their nearby towers look the same as their existing 2G panels.

will t-mobile use 2100 European frequency in usa?

"The American branch of T-Mobile may launch its overdue third-generation cellular Internet access in early December, claim those asking the company. One subscriber from the Kirkland, Washington area appears to have confirmed an announcement for 3G access in his area on December 6th or earlier, providing the first concrete date for the technology beyond T-Mobile's own late 2007 window. An official document was used to confirm the launch, according to the report. The apparent leak does not explain how much of T-Mobile's network would gain the advanced speeds or whether data rates will change.

However, the network may also give T-Mobile an opportunity to bring previously Europe-only phones to the US with full Internet access, according to one report. Though the company has the option of using a 1,900MHz band similar to AT&T's HSPA network but could also use the 2,100MHz UMTS frequency found in Europe. This latter choice would lock out T-Mobile from roaming on AT&T's network without multi-band 3G but would also enable some direct imports of handsets. The American Nokia N95 and the N82 may be prime candidates for the higher-end offerings on the 3G network.

Previous reports have suggested that T-Mobile may choose a third 1,700MHz option that would render its phones incompatible with either AT&T or European providers, but may offer slightly improved range."

I REALLY hope T-Mobile already has phones ready to be deployed...just waiting for 3g to go officially public before putting the handsets out. that'd be IDEAL....but...we'll see what happens

the truth is: it's NOT possible
the uplink (phone->node) is different
if not, T-Mobile simply pick 6267 and Z240 instead of 6263 and T639

bit off topic, but t-mobile doesn't usually stick with conventional naming. all of its samsung models are the tXX9. and the 6133 is the same as the 6126. SO if all above was true, then they'd still probably change the names of the devices to fit in with their current naming schemes. the z240 would still have been a T-XX9 phone and the 6263 would still have had a 3 at the end of it.
