I have to agree with you on that. There's lots of free stuff that end up going away.

For example, I heard of an ad based long distance phone calls. I never heard of it again.

There was also an ad based pager but that quickly went away.

Probably the only service that is doing good is the free 411 service which is ad based. And now other companies are starting to do the same thing.

Well, two years down the road from the original post the web site is still operational. Two years is forever if you don't have a decent plan or enough capital.
