Sprint prepped to launch Samsung SPH-M800

Posted Jan 10th 2008 12:16PM by Sean Cooper

Samsung is on a roll this morning, though this isn't as official as the SGH-F490 announced a few minutes ago, but the branding suggest this will show up at Sprint. Sadly, the word is that the 5 megapixel cam found in the F490 has been replaced here with a 2 megapixel shooter, but it does rock EV-DO, and for that we give thanks. No word on when this'll appear or how much it'll cost, but we expect we'll hear more soon.

Looks cool. I'm not too sure about the OS, or lack-thereof. It looks like it'll have a proprietary OS, which means it's not as open as Symbian or Windows Mobile.

We'll have LOTS on this phone starting Tues April 1 over on PhoneDog.com. It will be a custom OS developed by Sprint and Samsung (with a third party UI company as well). It's basically the F490 hardware with features and software custom developed for Sprint. I'm guessing this is going to be the phone that Sprint really pushes this summer - not to over-use this term, but it's their iPhone competitor. Trust me - all will be revealed this week.

Talking Re: Samsung SPH-M800

i am a sprint employee and i am currently using the samsung instinct. its release date is june 20th. this phone is amazing, the touch is flawless, internet speeds are faster then any phone i have ever had or played with regardless of carrier. i have played with the ipone and it has nothing on the samsung instinct. the only thing the iphone has that the instinct doesnt is the safari software, apple patented this software. if you havent checked out www.nowisgood.com then you need to. i would get into what the instinct has that the iphone doesnt and what the instinct does better and faster then the iphone but the list is to long. if your thinking about switching to SPRINT, do it. our signal strength is better, our calls are clearer, all of our phones are give you more and do it faster then anything T-MOBILE has to offer. i used to have T-MOBILE because my wife used to work in a call center and i have a signal in far more places with my SPRINT phone then i ever did with my T-MOBILE phone. my inlaws have T-MOBILE and they have to go outside to make calls while i can hang out in the basement and make calls with at least 3 bars of signal. if you live in the EASTON, PA area and you want to check out the instinct just shoot me an email.
