Default Is it just me?

Is it just me or are some people just not happy no matter what you do for them? I work as a cashier (don't laugh) and have found that no matter what you do, people will find a reason to complain. I've encountered some people who have a number of serious problems and count their blessings. I've also encountered some people with a relatively decent life that complain about the small stuff. I'd just like some imput on this problem I have with humanity. What do you think?

I think there are three types of people in this life: Those who complain, those who don't complain or only do so when appropriate, and those who bottle everything inside- only to explode one day.

The complainers will never be satisfied, and it's sad. Some people 'get off' on that sort of thing, it's their life's goal to complain about EVERYTHING. Rough childhood? Sheltered life? Perfectionism? Selfishness? Bad day? Nothing going right? Those could be SOME of the reasons and/or factors that go into why people complain.

Some people also never hesitate to take things for granted, and these are the people that are never satisfied and always want more - even though in some cases, they already have SO MUCH but just fail to look under their own nose.

You're a front runner as a cashier... you look a complainer in the eye and see rage and an unsatisfied appetite for everything to be perfect in their own little world. And even when it is perfect, it's not perfect enough. I've been a cashier before... and encountered complainers. I worked at a grocery store grinding meat and selling it... and encountered complainers. I worked in the military... oh gosh don't even get me started on the people there - unfortunately, the military's only ETF fee is jail time so that pisses people off who were duped into crappy things (like I was). Now I work tech support over the phone for Microsoft Xbox... yep, complainers there, too. I am only training... I can only imagine what it will be like when I start full on.

Gosh, I can hardly wait til I can move up to a game programmer one day... then the only complaining I'll have indirectly from customers reviewing online is "D00D, HURRY UP AND RELEASE YOUR GAME!" or "WORST GAME EVAR!" Alright, have a nice day :-D

In customer service, you'll never win... people love to complain no matter what you do, as you've already pointed out.

I work at a coffee shop right now...and not only do I have to ring people up, I make their drinks/food for them. You can definitely roughly categorize people like Mystic did. There are the people that will complain no matter how you make their food, or the people that will take the food even if you make it wrong. I can't imagine feeling like I have to complain about everything, and bring people down just because that is how I feel. We have two regular customers, one comes in, usually when we have a line out the door, orders 4 drinks, and precedes to stand there, critiquing how we make the drinks, and start yelling at us if it takes over a minute (which it does for 4 drinks). Every time I have to tell her that she can't talk to us like that, and if she goes and sits down and leaves us alone, we will finish a lot faster. Then we have a customer who will come and talk to us for 5 minutes and is extremely friendly. If she has never complained, but that is mostly because we make sure to make everything for her well. We also always give her a discount, or don't charge her for something in her order. Whenever she leaves the store, all the employees are just smiling. I guess the moral of this, is that by being nice and friendly, and not complaining constantly not only brings other people's days up, but you will also be treated better.

I work in retail, and I get people like that too. That's just how some people are, unfortunately. I've grown to accept it, and then talk to my coworkers about them after they leave. Can't change them =\
