Imagine if AT&T bought their spectrum. I wouldn't put this past them. T-Mobile should scoop up Amp'd's spectrum. If it benefits them.

Amp'd does not have any spectrum, all is from VZW

Oh well, and to think of how well their business model did with relationship to arpu...almost double the number of the big 4. The business model was the right idea, it was just poorly executed!

I think they'll let you! I was there yesterday and they still had everything set up. I just think that when they try to set it up with Amp'd on the computer that it won't go through.

Well, (and no offense to others here that are young) he is only 17. He just sees T-Mobile as being the 4th place carrier in terms of subscribers, so in his eyes, they suck. Mainly because of the lack of 3G. Either way, as I told him, Sprint is the one that needs to mind their P's and Q's. I hear SK Telekom is interested in Sprint.

Well ask him if its fair that I consider Sprint the abortion of the wireless industry due to their customer service woes, last place finishes in customer service surveys and the bastard of wireless forums?!

Just tit for tat.

I try not to get into with the Sprinters. Being a mod over at sprintusers can kinda be a pain when you are not with Sprint anymore. :)

That said, even the Sprinters know that CS is awful, and so is their marketing.

I'm not so sure I think that the marketing is terrible. The new commercial that I saw first during Transformers was actually pretty catchy.

I think in terms of wireless marketing, its Verizon, T-mobile, Sprint, ATT...

That Verizon "down by the docks" commercial remains the pinnacle of wireless marketing!

Matt

The new campaign is catchy, but it just talks about speed. It doesn't showcase prices or devices.

Most folks do not know EV-DO from CPR.

Verizon, T-Mobile, at&t actually showcase what people care about. Making calls, free phones, and value.

Sprint has a good PPC (Mogul), but they don't market it. Verizon marketed the Chocolate and Q like a demon along with "it's the network". at&t marketed the Blackjack and Sync. Not to mention "more bars in more places". T-Mobile markets it's value with MyFaves, and Hotspots@Home.

Speed is nice, but most people do not care. Only us select few phone geeks.

Last year when I did a research evaluation for Car Toys, I discovered that people want coverage, quality phones, and value. Only 7% said wireless broadband was a major factor in choosing a wireless carrier.

That (sadly) is exactly why the cellular technology in the United States are pretty backward compared to Europe/Asia

PS: Sorry for 3 posts in a row...

Amp'd stated that they are giving customers til July 31st to transfer to other carriers in order to keep their numbers:
Amp'd Shutters Doors, Puts Assets Up for Sale (Phone Scoop) (http://www.phonescoop.com/news/item.php?n=2297)

Date Posted: Friday, 5:41 PM
Source: Amp'd / Wireless Week

Amp'd Mobile's last effort to secure funding while in Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection failed today, forcing the company to close its doors after four years of operations. Since it filed for bankruptcy on June 1, Amp'd had been racking up $370,000 in charges a day with carrier partner Verizon Wireless. It was in negotiations with King's Road Investment, but the talks failed to result in any funding for Amp'd. Earlier this week, Verizon Wireless petitioned the ruling judge to allow it to halt Amp'd's services, as it was apparent Amp'd could not pay the more than $51 million owed to Verizon Wireless, nor even the $2.5 million bankruptcy figure mandated by the court. Beginning Monday, July 23rd, Amp'd will explore the option of selling off its assets in pieces. Amp'd has forged agreements with some of its subscribers, but no exact figures are available. Update: Amp'd has now posted an update for subscribers warning them that service will be suspended on July 24 and that customer service will be available until close of business Monday to help the port their number without an Early Termination Fee. Update 2: Amp'd is now saying that its service will remain in operation through July 31st. Subscribers have one more week before it is discontinued and they have to find another provider.
