Evidence is mounting that Sprint will release the HTC Hero, a smartphone shaping up to be one of this wireless phone company's first Android-based models.
While not as definite as an official announcement, the latest evidence is almost as solid: HTC's support website has a clear -- if not easily found -- reference to "HTC Hero (Sprint)".
Seems that Sprint will be getting the HTC Hero. Check out this link for the details.

Great phone to add to the Sprint line-up, especially with the Sense UI overlay on Android. It should make the OS more appealing to average customer as well as business customers. Wish AT&T would have picked it up, oh well lol.

Yeah, so how does that work? Do phone manufacturers receive bids from cell companies?

I found this today:
HTC Hero Now Virtually Confirmed for Sprint
The FCC has approved a CDMA version of the HTC Hero, adding to the large amount of evidence that this smartphone will be one of Sprint’s first with Google’s Android OS.
While there has yet to be an official announcement, there have been many leaks. For example, HTC’s support website recently contained a reference to “HTC Hero (Sprint)”.
The FCC doesn’t specify the wireless carrier, but it has approved a version of this smartphone for CDMA networks, like Sprint. This device also sports EV-DO.
According to an earlier unconfirmed report, Sprint’s launch of the HTC Hero is scheduled for October 11, the same day this carrier is rumored to be planning on releasing a second Android-based device, the Samsung InstinctQ.
