If you use this map, PLEASE report where you do, or do not have EDGE service.
The only way for the map to be more accurate, is with more data from users like you
I will do my best to maintain this map. After a while, it will be fairly complete with everyone's help.
PLEASE REPORT: Where you get EDGE (Zip code preferably) and what speed.
Thank you Brad15 for making and maintaining the map.

There are wap speed test sites out there. Go to google and search for "wap speed test" or "EDGE speed test" or something of the sorts and test it out. Chances are, you are 100+ kb

I have a few pdf's of edge coverage. I can send to the admin if he wants them. I have Chicago, Denver, Los Angeles, and New York, and upstate ny. I don't have anywhere to host them. I was given them anonymously.
Milwaukee has edge coverage too. I can tell you that.
Take them if you want them.

I can tell for sure that it's pretty close to being accurate in chicago. I lose edge in the south west suburbs when i leave I-55 and go on I-80. I Also lose Edge on I-88 (Regan Tollway..Ewww) just past the old dekalb toll plaza. It's gone by the time you get to the new toll plaza they just built. I don't lose edge going north to milwaukee at all. I actually got gprs just a mile or two away from Downtown Chicago for the past month! Madison st at Loomis st. (west loop). I called t-mobile up and they had to "reset the gprs parameters" and should be fixed. Will find out tomorrow night!

Alright guys. So a user, who will remain unnamed for now, took the T-mobile coverage map, and put an EDGE coverage map over it. However, we are still working out how we are going to update it, etc...so I will add all your guys's locations to the current one, if that is what we decide to use, or the new one if I put that up. I will let you know whats going on when he gets back to me. Keep the good info coming, this is going to help a lot of people. I'm sure when 3G comes out we'll start up one of those

I can confirm that the Oklahoma City area has solid EDGE coverage. My current 6030 can't utilize EDGE, but my old BB Pearl showed edge throughout the entire city area. T-Mobile really seems to have a good buildout in the Okla. City area.

59.3 kbit/s (Speedtest.net - The Global Broadband Speed Test (http://www.speedtest.net))
I did an average of 6 total readings from dslreports, 3 - 100k, 3 - 600k
I did an average of 3 total readings from speedtest, 3 different servers; recommended Stillwater, OK, Ft. Lauderdale, FL, and San Francisco, CA.
All readings were with the V360(unlocked, Euro phone) tethered to an iMac Intel, no programs running on the computer nor any java apps running on the v360 for optimal readings.
So its either no EDGE coverage or my unlocked v360 is limiting it. Any insight from those with a v360?

As for me, I'm in Redwood Valley, CA-zip 95470. It's located in Mendocino County, Northwestern California, and is 8 miles north of Ukiah or 115 miles north of San Francisco. I have full EDGE here via AT&T's Affiliate, Edge Wireless, the GSM provider here, I even have EDGE in the middle of the Redwoods!

Brad, you need to update your map ;) I can give you the zips for the towns I listed if you need them :) One suggestion, you should add roaming coverage as well, I live in area where GSM service is provided by Edge Wireless, an AT&T Affiliate, and Edge has EDGE in almost all of their territory (NorCal, SouOre, SE ID and W Wy). Since T-Mobile has no domestic roaming, for voice or data it doesn't really matter who your service comes from.

thanks! got four days off in a row, so i took a few days to go up north.. a place where my phone does not get signal unless i want it too and it was saying "no service" most of the time (my choice.. lol)
got back, and i wish i would have done some work for school though, ooh well at least i had fun
now.. to everyone.. i plan on doing some enhancements to the map.. working on learning flash right now, so i would like to make an interactive map and post it online.. i am trying to find a nice resolution map for each state so we can have more detailed coverage. If anyone has any detailed maps for any states, please let me know.
the map i have right now is not a great resolution (and JPEG for that matter) so i cannot zoom in enough with photoshop to be exact with it, so for the areas like PA that i have over-estimated i am working on getting it worked out, but it will take a few days, and for CA, the coverage does not seem to show EDGE Wireless coverage (unless off of 105 is all EDGE Wireless). i will be trying to add all of EDGE Wireless coverage.

I-8 from Gila Bend, AZ to Yuma, AZ: EDGE
West of Yuma, AZ to East of Holtville, CA: GPRS
Holtville, CA to El Centro, CA: EDGE
West of El Centro, CA to East of Julian, CA exit: GPRS

Very true but if there is a large amount of buttons a larger button replaces some of the small ones denoting a large area of coverage. I guess it really depends on how many people you expect to respond and the amount of detail you are looking for. On dslreports we have one for internet speeds and coverage such as what internet proivider you have and the speeds and the type of internet. granite here on tms we are looking at one provider. We could have people post speed reports and where it works at. Just a thought.

Just go to http://dslreports.com/mspeed from your phone's browser.
Or you can tether your phone to your PC and go to any of the major speed test sites.

it should have E icon when the phone is online
my 6120, E50 (killed), Z710, W810, K550, K790, W300 have E by the signal meter where EDGE is available

Thats great if it works, but many phones (like mine unfortunately) do not have any icons for what type of data service you have. Or maybe they do, but T-Mobile for some strange reason blocks that feature.

My v360 just says GPRS Active when tethered in an EDGE area. I'd have to do a SEEM edit to get the E icon on the screen.

hey guysi have a question about t-mo network. I always have a unlock device to use with t-mo, for example i used motorola samsung and nokia. I live in las vegas and always when i put my t-mo chip to used with the motorola and samsung, the screen shows cingular (now att) but with nokia it shows T-mobile. I know this because t-mo uses the att red in some places, like vegas.
But now, i am back of my samsung f300, i put my chip in there and now shows T-mobile,. it used to show cingular. is that means that t-mobile is upgrading its own network and having more 1900 spectrum?
any ideas?

At home, I am within line-of-sight of two (2) T-Mobile sites, the closest of the two is right across the street from here. As the bird flies, it is about 1/8th of a mile and I can see the tower from my front yard. The other site is one mile away, on top of an apartment building.
Distance from a cell site apparently has no effect.

That is my situation almost exactly. The closest T-Mobile tower is directly across the street from me, with another one roughly 3/4 of a mile away. After talking with several T-Mobile reps at the local retail outlet, they've confirmed that there is some EDGE in Kalamazoo, but it all depends on the tower. I've done speed tests all over the county, and have never seen anything over 20 kb/s. The most frustrating part is that EDGE is common in very other major city in MI, but Kalamazoo seems to be the lone exception. It's become an increasingly angering situation that almost has me looking to other providers that DO have high-speed here.

It doesnt necessarily mean that t-mo is getting more spectrum...it just means that they finally have full control of the old Cingular 1900mhz network in your area. As a result, they updated the MNC (network name) to say T-Mobile and not Cingular.
Edge coverage is great here in Miami

It is not being advertised as 3G capable. Many CSRs are not even saying that it is 3G capable. No advertising has been done for the T639 as it was only released in a select market. However, we can expect reports of 3G by primary markets within the year.

Yes, both of these are GSM handsets, but only the V9 is 3G. The V8 supports EDGE only. I have read that the V8's are pretty fast, even when the are using an EDGE connection.

generally yes because the RAZR2 processors are at least double the speed of the V3s

NorCal north of Sacramento and San Francisco is a sad state for T-Mobile data, Verizon has EVDO almost everywhere (and will have it in almost all areas by the end of the year), AT&T and their affiliate, Edge Wireless are starting to expand their HSDPA across the area, yet T-Mobile seems happy to struggle by with GPRS in all but a few places (Redding, Chico, Yuba City, Marysville). I took a trip over to Sacramento and Placerville the other day, and where I had EDGE and or/HSDPA with AT&T and EVDO with Verizon T-Mobile was more often than not only GPRS, T-Mobile needs to think outside of the big city!

[edit] Nevermind. That is on a sidekick, and I guess thats from the servers to the website, not my actualy phone to te website. =\ Does anyone know if Salt Lake is supposed to be EDGE? It would surprise me if it weren't, as it is a top 10 launch city for most mobile services. [/end edit]

Grand rapids area:
Solid EDGE coverage downtown (49503)
Spotty EDGE in metro area / by the airport (49512)
I live in Kentwood (somewhat east of GR proper), and it's probably 65% here. Oddly enough, if I travel south to far less populous areas, the coverage is 100%. Spotty coverage in the airport / major industrial district seems like a *huge* oversight, though.

I'd definitely like to see the areas that aren't right on top of the Grand Rapids dot as green ... outside of the core of downtown, the EDGE coverage is infuriating for an area of this size. I wouldn't want anybody to be misled :)

Close enough. You can't really be *too* precise with a map that size, I just wanted to make sure that it didn't show GR as perfect, because it's not. I do my part and call to complain about it periodically, though :)

I can confirm there is EDGE in downtown Kalamazoo, Michigan. ZIP code 49006. I know in other parts of 49006 there is only GPRS, so I want to specify I got these speeds just west of downtown. I tethered to my laptop via Bluetooth and did a speed test on Speedtest.net (http://www.speedtest.net). My results were a whopping 94 kbit/s down and 25 kbit/s up. Pretty slow for EDGE, but far too fast to be GPRS.
http://www.speedtest.net/result/232672248.png
The weird thing was, speedtest.net said my location was somewhere in Europe and that the closet server to use for the test was in London. I did the test in SW Michigan, so does anyone know why it thinks I'm in Europe?

On my Blackberry 8320, in Bismarck, ND (zip 58503), I just tested at dslreports mobile test and got 628kbps. My phone has been faster here than anywhere I've ever used it. Not very useful as I'll probably never have a need to return to Bismarck.
I get EDGE all thru Huntsville, AL (35805-35816) as well as Madison, AL (35758).
I was in Kansas recently, and with the rare exception of finding a CellularOne coverage area, I never got anything more than GSM from Kansas City all the way to Manhattan. How does TMobile justify even having stores in areas with nothing more than GSM coverage?
For that matter, I notice that the map shows extensive EDGE coverage around the Minneapolis area, yet all I ever got there from the airport out to the eastern edge of Ramsey County was GSM if my phone was on a TMobile network.
Is everyone manually picking some other network (CellularOne, perhaps) in Mpls/StP?

I guess the EDGE coverage is kind of void now...would anyone be interested in working on a 3G coverage map? Doesn't T-Mobile already have one on their site though....hmmm, maybe time to Unsticky this thread.
