That is an impressive looking slider. It's a big step up from the t629 since it has real keys instead of that flat keypad surface on the t629. I used that t629 keypad for a few months and never got used to it. It was almost impossible to dial while driving.

I'm very interested in the qwerty keypad and I wonder if this is a replacement for the T719 blackberry connect phone which failed so miserably.

Tomorrow I'll photocopy the specifics and post them up here, talk time, camera etc...

I think that T639 has T-Mobile USA 3G.
FCC Approves First 3G phone for T-Mobile (Phone Scoop) (http://www.phonescoop.com/news/item.php?n=2275)

Date Posted: Yesterday, 6:09 PM
Source: FCC

The FCC today has re-approved the Samsung T639. The model was originally approved as a quad-band GSM phone, however that approval was revoked and now the phone has been re-approved with WCDMA 1700 support. Support for this band as well as the model both indicate the phone is destined for T-Mobile USA. The T639 appears to be a clamshell phone with quad-band GSM/EDGE and Bluetooth in addition to 3G. No additional details are available in the documents approved today. Neither T-Mobile nor Samsung have announced this phone yet.

Thanks. I take it that the T639's 2.5 hour talk time is with 3G its connected to that? That 2.5 seems quite low.

Wow. But I wonder when they will finally launch 3G. They might do like they did with the Nokia 3220, since it had EDGE, they just soft launched it, and people were able to use EDGE where EDGE was turned on, such as in NYC.

I speak to the local engineer at least once a week as he stops in and checks up on local problems. He keeps saying the end of the year when the government finally vacates the frequency they can turn on the service. He won't committ to it but he makes it sound like the towers are already in place and ready to go but they cannot activate with the government continuing usage on the frequenc till December.

I really like the Samsung Blast phone. I'd be curious to try it out at the store when it's out, but it's hard to pull me away from my Sony Ericsson :) And the QWERTY for a slider just intrigues me

I don't really consider those SureType kind of keypads to be QWERTY. The Dash/Wing is QWERTY. :)

band tells everything
if it has UMTS 1700/2100, it has 3G

I don't think the paper showed 3G. But it has 3G, since the FCC just approved the T639 for 3G.

The Nokia rep either wasn't giving up info or he was pretty adamant when he told me not to expect much before the end of the year, if the end of the year at all. I don't think T-mobile is really pulling hard to get new phones from them or they are waiting for a massive launch somewhere down the line. Either way, the Nokia rep didn't have anything good to say.

Why oh why does T-Mobile's lineup suck so much? 3G issues aside, they could be selling some great edge-capable phones from SE such as the w810 and s500i. They could also sell some nice Nokias too.. oh well.

terryjohnson16
07-22-2007, 11:55 PM
AT&T is in bed with SE right now. They might not like Nokia that much. Plus, its the prices that the phones cost. T-Mobile is scared that people won't want to pay $350 for a regular cell phone.

The thing is that customer care doesn't hear about some phones as so they claim, until the day the phone about to launch. That is a lie.

terryjohnson16
07-27-2007, 10:01 PM
People in tech support know cause they get the phones ahead to test them so they know how to work them when a customer calls in.
