Would you get T-Mobile as your ISP for all of your computers if they offered it at a good price?

Wirelessly posted (Dell X50v and/or SE K790a: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 4.01; Windows CE; PPC; 240x320))
I personally don't recommend using $29.99 internet as ISP due to speed

If they had one that was for ISP, at fast speeds like DSL and CABLE, but owned by
T-Mobile.

For me it would depend on if they could match my cable speed and at what price it would be offered.

Once 3G is released nationally, it could be as fast as my DSL connection. That, combined with a reasonable price, would make it worthwhile.

the first thing is:
T-Mobile will launch HSDPA cat 6 (3.6Mbps) out of the box, that is comparable with DSL I use
but I found the packet data service is good up to 3 computers, more than this will greatly slow down (esp using streaming audio/video)
of course if T-Mobile is confident enough to handle the massive HSDPA internet connection, they can put value-add stuff to offer full ISP service (3 mailboxes, personal storage, usenet newsgroup), because broadband is not available everywhere

Sadly, i am using them as an isp. LoL. Edge it is! I'm going overseas saturday for a month or two. Comcast is already turned off. I miss my comcast already! The powerboost may be a gimmick but 20+ meg down for any time was sweet!

it i can get at a reliable12 MBps down / 3 MBps up, at a reasonable price, then yes. otherwise i'm saying with comcast. i have 3 computers in my home, and they are often all used simultaneously... sometimes my router can barely keep up lol

but didn't somebody say Comcast has data cap?

i don't have a data cap on my comcast... i know that because i download a lot of stuff...
my hard drive space: 67GB free / 320GB total (spanned over 3 drives)... trust me, there is no cap. at least in my area.

I hate to say
the only broadband provider here is Verizon DSL (not FIOS)
though 3M/768k for $30 is not bad at all (requires one year contract)

The more I thought about it... I may want to keep a separate ISP. I am really liking my Hotspot @Home service, and would need a wired ISP for that.
I may, however, switch from my AT&T DSL to Cox Cable internet. AT&T claims I can't have DSL without wireline phone service. I really don't use my wireline phone, and get tired of the customer survey calls all evening. To get rid of my wireline phone, I have to go to Cable internet.

that is correct. the way DSL works is via a land line. no land line = no dsl.

but there's a "Dry DSL", does not require active phone line, just make sure it works

Nope, I'm getting a steady, very reliable 15000-19000 down and 2500 up with Comcast (formerly Adelphia here), I doubt T-Mobile could match that. Besides, wireless just isn't dependable enough, and the latency isn't that great.

You can just get "minuteline" service for the landline portion. it costs me $6.70 a month on top of my $24.95 for DSL.. At least, i know that AT&T (or SBC whatever it is today) has this option in ohio.. it costs something like .08 a minute, but i dont care about that because i dont even have a home phone plugged in, just the DSL modem.
it sure beats me paying $50 a month to the cable company just because i have Dish Network.
God i hate cable, too overpriced for everything.

I'd be tempted to try DSL, but we can't get it out here, just Cable HSI. Most of this county isn't even equipped for it, with only three towns having it (Ukiah, Willits, Fort Bragg).
That said, our connection is rock solid with Comcast, 15000-19000 down and 2500 up, that's day or night, and 99.99 percent uptime.

I wouldn't use T-mo as an ISP in their current state... but if they actually had a cable modem service or something wired, then maybe. It would depend on speed, reliability, and price (of course).

using wireless ISP at home is not necessary where DSL or cable is available, it should be used as out-of-home or backup internet

If the speeds are good and it is a good or better price... Why not?

sharing is another story
there's NO EDGE/HSDPA router available yet, that the sharing is kinda hassle (I share the landline internet with 5 computers in the entire house)

Latency on wireless is horrible, at least compared to wired options. Also, for data I just don't see wireless as reliable, it's certainly not compared to wired landlines. Now, that's not a shot against T-Mobile, just wireless in general.
