Hey guys...I feel silly for asking such a simple question. Lately, I've started text messaging a lot more. I have always typed out each individual letter. But now, that's getting annoying. Therefore, I turned on the prediction option on my phone. Supposedly, this will predict words as I am typing them. However, it doesn't do a good job at all on my Nokia 6030. Any suggestions on how I can improve this feature to predict words that I actually want to type out? For example, when I type "dog" I get "demon."

roflmao... that's pretty funny.. i dunno what to tell you, as i haven't got a 6030... my last nokia was back in 02, and it was a 5120...

but, i can relate... on my pearl, when i try to type a certain word, it usually ends up saying ducking.

I called up Customer Care and the lady had no clue. She just kept cracking up laughing when I told her what was happening.

i think i got it. hey alex are you pressing this for dog 3+6+6+6+4 which is the wrong way??? or pressing 3+6+4 the right way. you only have to push each number once.

Nah... Our phones got switched - my last dog's name *should* have been Demon.... Pretty funny! I turned off predictive text on my phone for the very same reason though - it does NOT predict anything close to what I want to say!

lol ok when i turn on t9/dictionary just now under the txt options on my 6030 and type dog i get doomi, this is happening cause instead of typing 3 6 4, i was typing 3 6 6 6 4. 3 d 6m 6n 6o 4g lol ive made this mistake several times until i got used to the t9, itap, itap extended, etc... thats why i wanna use morse code for txting its much easier. one good way to not get confused at first is to hit ur 0 key after each word that makes u start a new letter and u get a space. im so used to my razr i almost forgot how to type on this 6030. not sure on the 6030 but on the razr it remembers words u typed in and when u use itap it gives u the optiin to use the word remembered it greys it out then u hit right arrow to use that word. kinda kool

OK guys, after years of using Nokia and doing text, my kid made an awesome discovery.

That is, there is a selection if you didn't get the word you want. If you wanted dog and did not key in 364, it is your problem. If you did key in 364 and you got fog or eng or doi, etc., hit the * key to toggle selections. You quickly learn that if you key "66" it is going to say "on" so you similarly learn that if you want "no" you hit "66*". I find this perfectly usable most of the time. Ref phone today is N3220.

Other brands have what appears to be a little more advanced prediction, sometimes going way beyond what you typed. Have seen such in Kyocera, S/E, and now in the Moto V195. What exasperates me most about "other" phones is they move the stinking space key! Some put it on * and some put it on #. Bah, humbug!

I like Nokia's T9 better than the predictive text on Motorola and Samsung phones. I've used it long enough that I can do most of my typing without thinking about it. Typing a text message on my wife's Motorola v323i is more cumbersome for me, and it took too many keystrokes on my last Samsung (t629) to capitalize a proper noun in the middle of a sentence.
