The Nokia 6301b is now able to be outfitted with the version 8.22 firmware via Nokia Software Updater (http://www.nokiausa.com/get-support-and-software/software/software-updater)software (NSU).

8.22 loaded quite nicely. It wasn't that big of a drain on the battery. My AC-5U brought it back up to full charge in less than 20 minutes after the flash was over. Here is what I've found to date:
Some of the icons are nicer looking
The menus appear to work a little faster
The life timer in the *#WAR0ANTY# screen was reset to 000000:00
UMA worked right off the bat once I reinstalled my settings from backup
Backup did not reinstall my keys so I had to re-download all of my ringtones and wallpapers
It was several minutes before my 4 GB microSDHC card was fully read. It showed 0 files in all directories until then. I was thinking to myself that it was the first time a new firmware had wiped out my microSDHC but that is what I get for thinking. After about five minutes all of my files, as if by magic, reappeared.
I did not see anything exceptional, apart from actually being able to use UMA.
Re-syching with T-Mobile's contacts server went smoothly over wi-fi. My almost 400 contacts downloaded in a few minutes.
T-zones is fast in re-downloading all the stuff I had to re-download because of the key loss I mentioned above.
Overall this doesn't seem to be any sort of loss to the device unlike some firmware updates have been in the past. I haven't run the device through all of its paces yet but the music player still functions as expected, UMA functions flawlessly, unlike before, it was a NIGHTMARE (http://discussions.europe.nokia.com/discussions/board/message?board.id=phones&thread.id=51213) before. When I get an opportunity I'll check out the camera and games and the like.
