So after having my G1 for a few months using the 3G in the greater Los Angeles area I have found somethings...
When using 3G the phone eats battery.
I already keep my screen brightness all the way low to conserve battery. Screen is still beautiful that way.
I recently created filters in my G-Mail box for all my message board updates to be automatically archived so I do not get new inbox notifications ALL THE TIME.
But most importantly, Why really use 3G unless you are browsing the web? Sending text messages, EDGE is perfectly fast enough even for MMS, for GMAIL EDGE is perfectly fast enough...
SO, I have gone to SETTINGS, MOBILE NETWORKS, and USE 2G SERVICES ONLY! This way you are not on 3G all the time just to get that "Hi How Are You" email. The battery lasts way longer than it did using 3G services all the time, and really unless you are browsing the web, no need to turn 3G services on.
So if you want longer battery life out of your G1, put it on 2G services only... Its easy enough to switch if your gonna browse the web...
