View Full Version : Rep Power?

I'm just curious, what is Rep Power? I noticed that each poster has a rep power of some kind. Does the Rep Power increase as I post more? (I'm still at a lowly Rep Power 0.)

I tried to do a search, but it gave me an error message saying that "Rep" had too few characters to be searchable.

I think I figured it out by moving the mouse around on the post graphics. When I click the thumbs up at the top of a post, I get to add or take away from one's reputation.

I don't get to post as much lately, as I am busy with summer odd jobs and the kids, but I really enjoy what I learn through the forum.

I see where it says to add when I put my mouse over it but I did not click on it so I don't see where it says to take away. I guess we will hear more about it soon.

Don't worry guys, I'll explain this later once the system is working properly. For now though, please feel free to give posts that you find helpful positive points. All negative points will not count. If any negative points are given out, I will erase them.

If a post adds value, click the thumbs up icon for that post.

okay, since this hasn't been explained yet, i'll give you all a quick rundown on the reputation system for vbulletin.

first of all, the reputation system is a counter that can go up or down, and can only be influenced by other members or the administrator. whenever you see a post you find helpful, something you really approve of, etc. you should click on the http://www.t-mobilesignal.com/forum/images/buttons/reputation.gif icon on that person's post and choose "i approve." this will increase that member's reputation.

on the other hand, if someone says something you find very inappropriate, rude, or hateful, then you can click on the same icon and choose "i disapprove."

this system is sort of a balance for your "post count" ... it allows people to see whether your posts really are quality or if you're just a post whore... however, the only way this system can work efficiently is if everyone uses it. and yes, i know it's a pain in the ass to click it... and that's how most rep systems meet their demise.

on a similar note, if you find a post that you feel is EXTREMELY inappropiate, or if there's spam, click on the http://www.t-mobilesignal.com/forum/images/buttons/report.gif icon to report it to the moderators.

I wonder how many reputation points it takes to move you up to rep power 1? I am still a lowly rep power 0, and I generally don't think of myself as a post whore.

Since I last asked, my rep power went up to 1 and I have 5 reputation points. Perhaps it is at 5 when the rep power goes up to 1.

Alex, you have done a great job with the forum and the WAP site. I spend way too much of my day here. :o

the way it works is in ranges...

from a to b reputation points = rep power 1
from b+1 to c reputation points = rep power 2
from c+1 to d reputation poitns = rep power 3

etc

There are about 45 different modifications/template changes that will be added in the next week or so. I just finished typing up the entire list. Now, we just have to agree on a price and then he can get to work! You'll see a lot of new features and hopefully you all will like them! Again, thanks for your patience!

The reputation system works like this. Each time you post something that a user finds helpful or they just enjoyed reading in general, the user can give you a positive reputation point to recognize you. Likewise, you are able to do the same for other users. It's a way to recognize users that are helping others. Also, you are limited to giving 10 reputation points in a 24 hour period. In addition, you must have at least written 1 post to give a rep point and written 1 post to receive a rep point.

Cool Alex, Thanks! I did notice that on my profile, there's a spot that says "Latest Rep Points given, or something like that, but it stays empty even though I have given people points since it showed up. Is it not working yet?

Alex, what happened to the rep. power point that I had? And I also noticed that my square is now gray instead of the green that it was before.

Yeah, I have seen that not all of them are green. I have always wondered why but I never said anything because I knew you were working on it.

I think I've seen some members with the green dot even if they haven't posted. Why is that?

I'm not sure why it's gray. Ahhhhh! Bad Vbulletin mods galore! I'll talk to the programmer.

The gray pips are with the users who haven't enabled it in their UserCP

After you are done on the distinguished road, you will move up to "kinjutsu11 will become famous soon enough". I've seen the Rep. system on another forum, and I think it works well.

Hey Alex, would it be possible to know at what increments is the Rep Power "tag" (for lack of a better word) changed. For example, how many rep points does one need to go from an "unknown quantity" to "on a distinguished road" and so on?

Alex
08-30-2007, 12:32 PM
Sure....but I'm thinking this should be changed from the defaults. I don't really think they are specific enough to T-Mobile ya know?

Here is the current system:

Reputation level Minimum Reputation Level

User is infamous around these parts -999999
User can only hope to improve -50
User has a little shameless behaviour in the past -10
User is an unknown quantity at this point 0
User will become famous soon enough 50
User has a spectacular aura about 150
User is a jewel in the rough 250
User is just really nice 350
User is a glorious beacon of light 450
User is a name known to all 550
User is a splendid one to behold 650
User has much to be proud of 1000
User has a brilliant future 1500
User has a reputation beyond repute 2000

And by the was, the "User is on a distinguished road" is that 5 or 10 rep points?
