So I just recieved my Dash yesterday and so far I love it. I am curious about some aspects of it though. For instance, I read the DASH faq that is stickied but am hesitant to alter anything on the phone. I would like some poilte advice as to tap into the full potential of my phone. I bought this phone so I could use email, calendar updates, and other nice features like weather on the go, directions, maps and of course the customizability (That even a word?) of it.
Could someone point me in the right direction? I am familiar with the lay out of the phone, but I don't understand most of the nitty gritty such as the WIFI EDGE and alllllll those terms and usages. I do want internet and instant emails as well as outlook and calender. Please help!
Thanks!
Edit: SInce my phone is a day old, I don't have alot done with it such as files downloaded and such. I need help on how to work the active sync (is it worth it?) and sync calender and work schedule from my comp to my dash. I Don't think I have the updated 6.0 windows yet, how can I check?
This is exactly what I want to know:
What does the 6.0 update bring to the table that the old version doesnt?
Whats the fastest way to connect to the internet interms of WIFI EDGE and that plethora of acronyms
If I were to use my dash to connect, look, send and recieve email from my @msn.com account, how would i do that? Pocket mSN?
How do I customize my ringtones in terms of finding downloading and uploading them?
How do I send small notepad or text documents to emails or other pdas.
Whats the fastest and easiest way to keep my calender updated?
How do I generally optimize my dash?
THank you!

1. Fancier interface, being able to use the menu keys in opera mini, html email via pop/imap, yahoo email support, and i think a slightly faster ie. (yahoo email should be available in the wm5 software if you put it in manually. i don't remember)
2. Wifi is usually fastest. Then Edge (The E icon at the top) then gprs (The G icon at the top). edge usually delivers upto 200kbps and gprs is sub-dialup.
3. I'm pretty sure windows mobile 6 has microsoft live. someone here should know.
4. I use the data cable and just upload them that way. I'm too lazy and just upload the whole mp3/m4a. lol.. You put it in the root folder to have it as a ringtone. Don't put it in a folder. you might not see it as a ringtone option.
4. Calender updated? Good question. I think my mail2web.com account has that option. someone here should know.
Check out opera mini if you have not already. mini.opera.com for the normal one or mini.opera.com/beta for the new beta. (you can use both). Gmail has an application too. gmail.com/app and google maps! google.com/gmm (type these in your dash.
edit: I would be surprised if you have windows mobile 6. To check, hit start, then Settings, then keep going through the pages until you see "About". That will tell you. If you have not gotten used to the phone yet, i would recommend the windows mobile 6 upgrade. Any bugs you should have can usually be fixed somehow. (with both wm5 or wm6) Just ask. You can get the update here: Link (http://t-mobile.com/wmupgrade/)
It has an easy email setup program that i prefer over the windows mobile 5. Makes it easy.
More info on wm6 here (http://t-mobile.com/templates/popup.aspx?PAsset=Dev_Pop_SoftwareDetailDash)

Ahh Yes Opera mini, Infact the tech support at T mobile pointed me to it. Also the surrealmobile site. I really want to optimize my dash. What things can I disable and what should i leave? Is there anything I should know about this phone? What should I stay away from and what should I do?
Any help is appreciated and I really do thank you for posting a reply with useful information.
I have been searching several forums and sites for information on WI-FI. I know its been around and I have the 29.99 dollar unlimited internet plan so I don't know what that includes nor what limits I have with it. Is there someone that can help with that? The most I know is that Opera Mini is a great browser and thats just about it. I some how got connected to the inet on it, not sure through wifi edge or whatever. What data connections ports and yada goes with what?
GRRRR ISNT THERE A DASH FOR DUMMIES BOOK?
Also is there any memory cards that I should get? If so what is the reason why you have one? To store music and ringtones? Whats the use of them

Also is there any memory cards that I should get? If so what is the reason why you have one? To store music and ringtones? Whats the use of themI bought a 2 gig chip for my dash at fry's. I hold all my music, applications, and even a few videos. I would recommend to get at least something to store applications on. even a 512 chip. They are cheap online usually. I just had to get the 2 gig one. I outgrew my 1 gig chip.
One thing though. I HATE the volume bar with the dash. I cannot say HATE enough. I turned the volume all the way up and just disabled the stupid thing. I hit it when im talking and it drove me nuts!
The $5.99 is meant for mobile pages (so im told). It blocks just about most ports. Some get port 80 to work, others don't. They don't guarantee anything to work other than the mobile pages. If you don't want to spring for the $29.99 plan and don't plan on going to t-mobile hotspots, you can use the blackberry internet plan. (19.99). You don't have a blackberry but it will allow full access to the internet. (just don't setup the blackberry part. lol). That can be done by logging into my.t-mobile.com and at the top, hit "not my phone' or something. select a blackberry. (how about one of the nice color screen ones! ;) ) and then going to "Plans and Services". BB Internet (NOT INTERNATIONAL) should be there. That would get opera mini, google maps, and pocket IE to work. It's kinda cheating the system but it does work. I use the hotspots on my laptop occasionally so i just end up paying the $29.99 fee.
Other apps i use myself is coreplayer (not free), eqo.com (free IM + international calling) and the Opera browser for Smartphones. (Link here.... (http://www.opera.com/download/mobile/?man=Windows+Mobile+5.0+Smartphone&ver=8.65b&heading=Windows%20Mobile%205/6%20Smartphone/Standard&img=/img/products/mobile/platform/865beta.gif&extra=) Just don't set it as the default browser unless you really like it.) I use opera mini most of the time myself but some sites like other browsers better.

Oh, and don't forgot to look for some homescreens that you like. I like something simple and black myself. I use undftd most of the time. (unzip and drop files into drop in application data\home when the dash is connected to your pc. )

If you go to windows mobile 6, this is a tweak to increase the speed of file transfers from the pc to the dash. (for everybody else too, if they have not heard).
Menu, settings, connections, more, USB to PC. Enable the advanced network functionality. Or menu, settings, 6 7 4. lol) Do it when NOT connected to a pc.

Well I got the WM6 installed and finally fingured out how to install the app unlock from surrealnetworks. I found the windows live option and I have installed on my computer outlook 2007 which is a great program. Can someone explain what windows live is? I mean I set it up and can view my email and such.
Now what?
Also If i were out and about and were to recieve an email, how would I get my dash to let me know and allow me to view, reply delete and such?
