so i was talking to a representative on the phone yesterday. and i told her when were there gunna put 3G here in LA? and she said somewhere next month. also one thing i told her what were going to be the advantages of 3G.? And she said that she couldn't tell me anything so i started acting dumb until finally i got something out of her and she said that there planning to bring some LG phones. and that there going to bring mobile tv to their new cellphones. and to top it all off she said that there planning to bring out video calling next year. and im thinking is she freaking around with me or what???? cause she sounded REALLY serious.. so im still wondering did she lie to me or what?? and the last thing she told me was u kno i have been hearing some rumors about verizon.. and i told her if she could tell me and she was all like im not sure but there have been many rumors that once verizon gets 4G by the end of next year there also going to offer video calling services. and she said she didn't know anything about at&t. o also i asked her about sonny ericsson phones and she said she had no clue if we were going to get more phones from them. so if anyone knows if any of this stuff she told me is true. could any one clear things out for me. cause im really wondering if any of the stuff she told me is true or if i have been lied to.

Its Possible, the 3G Network can handle the bandwidth... That would be cool since my phones have the 2nd camera already...
There are many places to snag up non-US native unlocked phones...
Getting support on them is sometimes tough if or some reason there is something that doesnt automatically set up...

I understand I cant use the Video Phone feature anywhere in the US...
But are you saying I cant use the phone at all if it has 2 camera's?
that doesnt make sense...

well i guess i figured it out...
the 3G on the Touch Pro is not a supported frequency in the US...
I gotta see if I can catch the company before they ship it or if they did ill exchange it for a different phone or something...
but it will still use EDGE, which isnt much slower than the 3G...
so its a toss up...
i think im gonna just see how it woks...

It will be so cool if they will bring video calling to the U.S.I lived for 2 years in Japan, and the first 1 month that I was over there I would always make up excuses to video call my japanese friends.

OK. so I understand non-marked T-Mobile phones that support 3G will not be able to handle the video calling. What about the T919. Its supposed to come out in early November and that has the dual cameras, its 3G, it has the video calling feature and its going to be an official T-Mobile phone. So will it work? I'm really hoping so cause I've been waiting for it to come out for a while now. I'm even skipping the G1 for it. Well kinda. My wife is getting the G1. lol.

the reps are the last to find out about what's coming down the pipeline. all of what that person told you was pure speculation and rumor.

The matter is most tri-band UMTS handsets work on either the 850/1900/2100 bands or US dual band handsets operating on the 850/1900 bands. T-Mobile USA is the odd ball out of the GSM carriers, being that they launched 3G service on AWS (American Wireless Spectrum) 1700/2100 bands. Your handset MUST support AWS 1700/2100 for the 3G to function properly.

so as long as my phone supports the 1700/2100, the phone will be able to do video calling?

That and the handset itself must support video calling (If T-Mobile USA chooses to launch the service).

even the phone has WCDMA IV and secondary cam, you still need carrier support
Rogers does
but try to make video call using N95-3 on ATT, you'll get an error

To reiterate what 706VZWUser said above, the important thing to know here is that T-Mobile is the oddball. Back in the day when there was just GSM and CDMA, you could buy any unlocked phone from Europe and it would work here. You can still use european phones but you'll only get 2G (GPRS/EDGE) speeds for data. T-Mobile is the only carrier using the 1700 MHz frequency. This means that pretty much only T-Mobile branded phones are going to support their 3G data network.

I don't know if I didn't explain it right or what but I'm telling you, not asking. Not only is the phone T-Mobile branded but the phone is made for T-Mobile U.S.A. The Samsung T919(Behold) is coming out around November 10th. IT DOES SUPPORT 3G. It also has the dual camera and has the video calling feature. I just wanted a conformation that it would work. Of course the phone supports 1700 radio band. Again, its a 3g phone. So I ask again, is the video calling going to work with another Samsung behold phone or anything else that would come to the U.S. with the video calling feature?

If T-Mobile USA has the feature activated by that time, then theoretically yes. Once again, make sure "video calling/conferencing" is mentioned in the specifications for the exact model T-Mobile USA will be receiving.

Thank you. The Behold as you know is not out yet but rumored to have it so I think that you have answered my question. Thanks again.
