must answer sincerely
I jumped in already (maybe I was the first use 3G in NYC), and I don't want to go back
Oh maybe this summer. I don't tether much and Portland is covered in WiFi. I'd just like to see what all the fuss is about. It's still going to be very slow compared to my FiOS at home and my cable at my office.

I imagine that I will if it ever comes here, but like Matt it will not even come close to touching my home connection. It's advertised at 20Mb down, and here are a couple of speedtests:
Last Result:
Download Speed: 15058 kbps (1882.3 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 718 kbps (89.8 KB/sec transfer rate)
Download Speed: 15836 kbps (1979.5 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 719 kbps (89.9 KB/sec transfer rate)
But then I don't know that there are too many mobile devices that could touch a fixed provider speed. Though I did like the faster data access over at Sprint, and I do look forward to 3g with T-mobile - I just don't use it to tether.
What kind of speed to you get with that FiOS? I would love to have that here.
Well, I just have the basic 15 down/2 up
You can get 30 down/5 up though. My Average:

I'll take the 3G if I can somehow use Skype on it like the 3Skype mobile in Europe. Then I'm sold.

That would be nice. That could be more a function of the phone and ROM too, though. I know that over at xda some of the custom ROMs do work with skype. But those are all Windows Mobile though, obviously. It would be cool to have skype working on any phone though.

Well, I bought an SDA from a guy that was able to get Skype to work on it, but only over wifi and there was always a some echoing, it turned out to be easier just to use a dedicated Skype wifi (Netgear sph101) mobile. But I still love the SDA for what it is. I actually just had a friend buy a 3Skype mobile in England, so i can give to my mother while she is on vacation in DK, since it will roam on any "3" network. I'll post later how that worked, as I'm some people here would be curious.

No matter how fast 3G is, the latency is just too high to make it be able to replace any wired or fiber connection, been using HSDPA for a few years now and UMTS well before that, just under 200ms latency is just about the best it can do.

I've not used skype over mobile broadband, but have heard that people have had good luck on Sprint EVDO using it. They never said anything about bad latency or anything. Granted I don't know if there is a difference between EVDO and HSDPA. Personally, I'd rather just use the phone and minutes.

I/m in as soon as it's available in TX and new WM phone with 1700 mghz for t-mobile network come out :) !
I also think I might take the plunge even though I have been a sprint customer for nearly 8 years.

Wirelessly posted (SAMSUNG-SGH-T739/T739UVGJ2 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 UP.Browser/6.2.3.3.c.1.101 (GUI) MMP/2.0)
By the time it comes to OKC, there will be plenty of phone choices. I'm sure I'll jump on the bandwagon asap.
