Does anyone know the cheapest way to add the data service to a T-Mobile account. Right now I'm a pre-paid customer but I am looking into agreeing to a monthly contract that also includes data. I'd like to have this feature so I can check my Yahoo Mail and reply to co-worker's emails. Supposing I sign up for T-Zones, what phones models work best with this service?

The $5.99 T-zones would probably be your best option. I check my Yahoo! Mail and my Gmail with my grandfathered $4.99 T-zones. I also surf the internet...including this forum, from my phone. Any phone with a fairly big screen will be able to get on the internet, but if your really going to want to surf, try to find a phone that allows 3rd party applications access to the internet (usually an unbranded phone) so you can install Opera Mini Web Browser.
Hope I helped;)

I've heard that some people have used the $19.99 BB plan with the Dash.

yes you can do that. what you have to do is login to MyT-Mobile and change your device to any BlackBerry. then add the BB addon to your account.

keep in mind the BB plan does NOT include wifi hotspots, while the regular, more expensive data plan does. this may be important for some of you HTC users to know.
