there's no double edge sword
but keep in mind that T-Moblile utilizes GSM/UMTS, that you can use unlocked phones as long as the band supports
try this with Sprint or VZW
the money you saved through plans and services is enough to offset the cost of unlocked phones

I am there. The tariff system is very different from the way the US charges. I believe our phones are subsidised more is that right? We can most phones free with a priceplan. Is it the same in the US?

Verizon customers who have the new CDMA/GSM Blackberry 8830, are able to do this.

Some of those phones are GSM quad bands. What's to prevent someone from buying one of those phones and shipping it over here? Wouldn't it work here too? (Here meaning the USA).

As long as the handset supports both the 850 band and 1900 band, then yes, it would work over here.

you can pretty much use all of those phones here in the good ole USofA. As long as they have the 1900 band you can use them. and some have the 850 band so you can use it in roaming areas.

Most of those phones are UMTS/HSDPA 2100. Thats why they have high end phones.

No you DON'T! Trust me you don't. You want to know why, you don't want their version? It doesn't have the Wi-Fi chip installed. They removed it, since they are not big on wifi over there, like T-Mobile USA is.

Sony Ericsson and T-Mobile are working closely together to bring more devices to the US.

Recently the Cyber-shot K850i and Z750i have been annnounced, both quadband HSDPA phones with more to come later on this year.

Its hard to tell but the updated version, the K810, isn't an EDGE device so although TMoUK has it I don' t think the TMoUS will be picking it up soon. The K790 is getting on to be a year old so if they were going to they would have done by now.
