Hi everyone. Although I am not a T-Mobile customer (not available here in Canada yet), I am pretty familiar with the company. I work for a call center that does Activations and Consumer Credit for T-Mobile. Looking forward to the day that T-Mobile does enter the market up here though.

Maybe because Canadians speak and comprehend American English well, tend to be more polite and tolerant in general than many Americans, and are paid a little less than their equivalents in the U.S. (probably mostly due to the conversion factor).

(I'm just pointing out some generalized reasons, and they are NOT meant to offend or hurt anyone. If they do, then sorry in advance!)

EDIT: Almost forgot... WELCOME KFLAN!!! :D

Thanks. Those are all valid reasons (although the pay issue I'm not sure about as I don't know what my counterparts in the U.S. are paid). One other reason is due to fraud. Almost all (if not all) of the English Activations/Consumer Credit centers are located in Canada. T-Mobile's reasoning is that people in Canada are less likely to know their customers on a personal basis, therefore much smaller chance of fraud occurring. But, the main reasons are because we speak English - even though we have to bite our tongues to say "zee" instead of "zed" ;) and because of our politeness (which we need in spades dealing with some dealers).

As for why T-Mobile doesn't have a presence in Canada, that would be due to our federal government not allowing foreign ownership of communication companies (they're only allowed up to a certain percentage, not sure exactly how much, but not higher than 30%). T-Mobile had invested in Fido in the hopes the rules would be removed or greatly relaxed. That ended when Fido was bought out by the other GSM player, Rogers. So for CDMA, we have Bell and Telus. For GSM, we have Rogers/Fido (Fido is run as a separate brand).
