[/B] So I got a call tonight from someone who was having some issues with Live [who hasn't for the past two weeks?] and specifically was trying to connect to a game of Halo 3. I had the unfortunate job throughout that call to deliver the message that Live is still having some issues and part of the problem is the massive influx of unexpected customers that joined Live around Christmas [note: The most in the 5 year history of the online service], alongside other things, and that I don't know when it might be back up... which I don't. I was expecting him to be like nearly else I seem to talk to lately, to cuss me out and pretty much expect that I'm holding back information and I can flip a switch under my desk to get the entire Live service back up and running.

Instead of saying what I expected, he told me he was just complaining a little about the service, because after a long day working at his T-Mobile retail store, he just wanted to get home and play on Xbox Live and he's been dealing with angry customers and he pays for the service and all this other stuff. Smiling on my end, I shot back, "Well you know what, being that you work for T-Mobile and you guys have the highest JD Power rating for customer service and you have to swallow all the bad things you want to say, I pretty much expect you to complain and I don't blame you one bit" This guy started laughing his butt off, I mean the rest of the call was both of us trying to say things while laughing or chuckling. He told me that I pretty much hit the nail on the head there.

At the end of the call, after asking if he had any more questions for me, I should have said I had one for him and went into something about a Samsung phone problem... then a big ol' "Nah, just joking, you have a great night" Hehehehe.

After putting up with two weeks worth of customers complaining about Microsoft and yelling and cussing at me and thinking I'm going to do something about the issue by saying they're going to switch to Playstation 3 (and I care why? Go ahead, but we're still gonna have issues on Live until they are fixed), the cool calls SERIOUSLY stand out. Oh, and all the awesome calls where I just talk about video games, tell people how to get "a job like mine", or how to get their job in the video games industry... since that is where I am headed, I can tell them exactly what they need. The cool part is - they listen :)

That's pretty cool. In customer service 95% of your experiences probably bite while 5% are ok. At least you got one call that made your day. :)

Actually, I pretty much LIKE my job and I'd say normally about 15% of my experiences suck... but the Xbox Live online gaming service has been having issues since Christmas and that has made it tough.

Though that T-Mobile guy was cool. That and the guy I convinced to buy the game Crackdown... it's fun to talk about games and get paid for it [my job is support but hey, it's Xbox]. I was just going on and on about things I did in the game that made it fun and this guy was completely all over it :p

imagine the nightmares if appl had a gaming console Isn't that what people said about Microsoft before they came out with the Xbox? Who would've thought they'd branch off into gaming? (I'm glad they did though) Then again... I think Apple users are prone to be more fanboy-ish than them than with many other companies, and discussions about which console is better would come down to fanboys vs haters and that wouldn't be fun :(

Haha thats a great story. It is nice to talk to those few customers that you understand and can just talk to casually. It really helps while dealing with irate people all day.

So...uh...when ya gonna flip the switch to make my COD4 work right again?

Would a bribe of some sort work?

While we're on the topic of Xbox 360, will a guitar designed to be used with Guitar Hero be compatible with Rock Band?

I remember reading something on Gizmodo a few weeks (or even longer) about how the guitar for Rock Band was going to be able to play GH...but the deal with activision (makers of GH) backed out...

So nothing official...which most likely will mean...no...

Both the Wired X-Plorer guitar and the Wireless Les Paul guitar work with Guitar Hero 2, 3, and Rock Band. Those two, however, do not have the Rock Band guitar switch for sound effects filters... if that matters to you. The wired Stratacaster guitar for Rock Band [the one with the sound effects filters] only works on Rock Band

BigDogg795:
What kind of bribe do you have in mind? Cause you know, maybe we can work something out here ;)

If anybody is still experiencing Live issues, please let me know... they should mostly be ironed out now (with the exception of a few people I've talked to today, including one guy who wants a few months of free Gold service since he has always been loyal to us and has a few accounts. It hasn't even been ONE month yet!)

It's definitely worth it to me...it increases the replay value of your games exponentially...

Speaking of the Rock Band guitar, I don't like it...I much prefer my GH guitars. But I only have RB for PS2.

The price of the service goes down dramatically if you purchase in bulk. It's $7.99 month if you pay month-by-month using your credit card. If you pay for 3-months at $39.99, it comes to $13.33 per month. If you buy a one year card for $49.99, it's $4.16 per month. Then again, most retailer stock 12 month cards that come with a free bonus month, which brings it to $3.84/month.

If you want to pay $2.53/month, go to buy.com and search for their 12+1 card which is currently selling for $42.99... if you're a new Google Checkout customer and you use that as your option to buy, an extra $10 comes off so total price for 13 months of Live comes to $32.99
