LG enV to Palm Treo 700w

I currently have an LG EnV I am fixing to buy a Palm Treo, is it necesary for me to change my plan? I dont want to have to I told my mother it would not mess our plan up. can I run my Treo on the same plan as my enV? No, it wont extend my contract. I am getting the treo off of eBay. I am just wanting to know if my existing plan will work or if I HAVE to buy some data services. Because I dont want to. Also, I am not interested in email or anything on it. I just want it for basic calls and texting and the calendar features and other basic apps on the phone. No internet. I was just wondering if the current calling and text messaging plan that we have will be able to be used on the treo. I hope you can tell me what I want to hear?

If I'm correct, RIM is the only company that requires data packages to be purchased along with voice plans (due to BlackBerries automatically syncing with their server). You CAN block data sessions on every other PDA or smartphone, BUT you WON'T be able to receive PIX/FLIX messages as PDAs/smartphones initiate data sessions to send/receive PIX/FLIX messages. Is the $24.99-$44.99 extra worth switching devices? Or no PIX/FLIX? Tough choice to make my friend!

PIX/FLIX messages are data on any phone, just on dumbphones, they are charged as minutes (unless you use the Voyager). So yes, PIX/FLIX is charged as data.

Of I get the data block, how much is that? Also, what is MMS? I can understand why you have to get a smart-phone plan. Verizon has almost got unbearable!

The data block is free. MMS is multimedia messaging, aka picture and video messaging.

You have to get a smartphone option because the Treo is a smartphone. There's a reason why it costs more than other phones because it does so much more than a regular phone.

Yes this phone does more that is why I got it, but alot of the applications that I got it for, data is not needed. I dont need it for email and internet, that is what computers are for. Yep, you are correct. All you need for a smartphone is a regular calling plan. Whenever you do get the Treo off of eBay, you cannot activate the phone online because it is a different category of phone (just like you can't do non-VCAST to VCAST online). You can generally use the "I tried it online but it didn't work" line and they will usually waive the activation fee for you. Just make sure that you have them put the data block on there or else it's $15.36 per megabyte, which can add up really fast.

I am getting the 700w. I traded my enV for a treo because I like the bigger screen and greater functionality. I thought I was not going to be able to get it because I was worried about this smartphone crap and i thought I was going to have to stick with my enV despite me wanting to get a Palm Treo. But I thank you for clearing up this nonsense for me. Verizon is so very hard to deal with and $15/MB is outrageous!

Have you thought about the 700wx? Or have you already bought the 700w? The original 700w had some memory issues which left a sour taste in consumers mouths.

Well, it's mainly issues when you don't have enough memory to run multiple applications at once. You just need to make sure that you close out of each application (actually close/kill it) when you are done with the app.

Just remember you will NOT be able to send or receive picture/video messages as a result of blocking ALL data from the phone!
