Hey there, im a total newb to this, not sure if there has been a thread posted on this subject but just wanted to give a heads up to all you att(cingular) customers!

a few months back i started recieving bills for phones that i had purchased...only problem was, i never bought these phones, they were being shipped to maryland, i live in PA!

i share the cell phone with my father, its all in his name, all his info.

turns out....after we had contacted cingular(back when they were STILL cingular this happened) someone had been making fraudelent purchases via our account. after snooping around the internet, i found a few other people who were having the same problem, mainly in new york.

not sure how this could happen. but that was the only thing that has ever happened with fraudulent charges. just via cingular(att w/e you want to call it) basically as you know when you open up an account they ask for all kinds of PERSONAL info.
ss#, address, DOB, then BOOM they got your credit card #.

now as i said we contacted them numerous times. they said it was a "breach in internal support" and they were having someone within their company "look into it"

could it be the people at the customer service center stealing info? shady dealings?

of course it was taken off our bill, but im sure there was more that could be done, truely i was ready to sue, if they could do that just within the cingular structure, who was to say they wouldnt be able to make other purchases outside of this, now that they have ALL THAT PERSONAL INFO?!!! thats class action right there. ha.

just a heads up for the community using att&cingular. ps, they were ALWAYS run by ATT. so if you or someone you know has encountered this problem, past or present, reply share your story, etc.

thanx for reading the obnoxiusly long post, hope it gives some insight into issues you may have had, and if your wise, you've probably switched by now. if not, you better look into that ; )

It sucks that that happened to you, but couldn't it happen anywhere? Hopefully, they're trying to figure out who did it (and I would think it would be pretty easy for them to do), and it would be nice if they could follow up with you and tell you that something has been done, but I think this is the sort of thing that there's no way to absolutely prevent.
