I received this helpful feedback from a brand new user. I'm not mentioning the user's name just in case he/she wants to remain anonymous. Thank you so much for being so detailed...what do you guys all think about the points this user made?
"Hi Alex,
I will try to provide some constructive criticism for you. First of all, I really like the layout. Coming from HowardForums, I see similarities, and I like that.
I like how the forums with new posts have speech bubbles highlighted in pink. One thing that was confusing was the way posts with new replies are displayed. Everytime I see the unopened envelope, I think that there is a new message in that thread, and every time I see the opened envelope with the paper sticking out of it, I think there are no new posts in the thread. I also automatically think that threads highlighted in pink have new messages. I don't know if that's just me or if other people may do the same thing. I think it may help if the way the speech bubbles are highlighted and the way the envelopes are highlighted are consistent. I know this is your website, and it looks like you have put a lot of thought and hard work into it. I would like to suggest, though, that the speech bubbles turn completely pink when there is a new thread in that forum and that the envelopes for a thread with new posts turn completely pink and be unopened. Also, I think leaving the hot threads highlighted in pink around the edges whether with the open or closed envelope would be a good idea. Lastly, I would mark threads with no new posts with the opened envelope with the paper sticking out. That's what is more intuitive for me. Maybe a poll on the T-MobieSignal site about this would help decide if other users feel the same way or are fine with the way it is.
I really like all the settings under Edit Options in the User CP. I like being able to customize the notification settings. It would be nice if there were some default avatars to choose from without uploading anything. Also, when I clicked on a link to an image that another user had posted in a thread, I wasn't able to view it. I think it would be nice for unregistered users to be able to view images such as that, but I may not understand your reasons for restricting it in the first place.
I am really glad that you were able to setup this website. Someone had mentioned that they were happy that there were no ads on the site. I think we are all appreciative when we visit an ad-free website, but if it helps you pay for website maintenance, I'm all for putting ads on there. I would rather have a free site paid for with adspace than to have to pay to be a member. That's just my opinion as well.
I don't know if you've ever visited the site, but I like some of the nuanaces at http://www.sprintusers.com (http://www.sprintusers.com/) . You may find some ideas for changes on your site by checking theirs out.
I appreciate all the thought and work you have put into the T-MobileSignal website. It looks like you have a great start! Let me know if there's anything more I can do to help out."
