When you plug your phone into your computer, does it come up under "my computer" as a new drive?? If it does, you should be able to explore and copy all your files.

The contacts are already on Outlook if it's installed
once your Dash is connected to host computer, go to My Computer->mobile device
your files on Dash's My Documents are also on My Documents\(your Dash)
everything on the memory card will be intact, just use card reader to retrive them

Outlook is a key
this should be included with your Dash software
without it, you're likely SOL

It IS included with Dash software. Trust me, I refused to install Outlook before getting my Dash, but I installed it for the contacts and have it synced solely to either my Dash or Curve... no email addresses, just for the phone
Report back here once you've got it, and I'll try and walk you through the steps to sync your contacts - it can be tricky.
If you don't have the included Dash CD anymore, you can try ebay. I found an auction currently going @ $0.99 for Microsoft Outlook 2000 (http://cgi.ebay.com/Microsoft-Outlook-2000_W0QQitemZ350002351045QQihZ022QQcategoryZ80351 QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem)... $28 for Buy It Now.

Outlook express won't work with active sync. I' tried and it won't connect. You're right, my mistake. Outlook Express is not supported on the Dash. I'll update my post.

Great! Glad to hear you got those contacts backed up. As a secondary precaution, please backup the Outlook contacts somewhere else on your computer. The reason for this is the next time you sync a phone to retrieve those contacts, if your settings are wrong [I'm not sure if it's a default setting or what] your computer will be updated with the contacts on your new phone... nothing... so it will erase the ones on Outlook. It involves what setting you have on the Dash, either "If there is a conflict, keep item on device" (default?) or "Replace item on device"... the setting I am on is to "keep item on device" and it hasn't given me problems, but when I first tested it out with the "replace" option (not knowing the wiser) it replaced the test computer contact I had with the Dash contacts - and I had none so it deleted the test contact. It may not happen to you, but stuff happens, so to be on the safe side, a backup of your backup is always good to have.
Now that you have that, before you go and get a new Dash, have you considered replacing the screen? It costs $110 to replace it through insurance if you have it, but if you don't want to pay that much or you don't have insurance - AND YOU DO NOT HOLD ANY ONE LIABLE BUT YOURSELF - then for $60 you can get a screen (http://www.gethightech.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=XX2077&Category_Code=CS). On that website is also a very detailed instructional video for step-by-step info. The earlier versions of this phone used to have a problem with a very fragile screen that would crack in a person's pocket, not your case obviously, but that resulted in people creating an easier way to replace the screen without getting a whole new device. So if you're interested in trying to salvage your device for the lowest possible price, screen replacement may be an option for you. Note that there may be cheaper screens out there, but I referenced the above website due to the detailed instructional video.

Here's how you backup your Outlook contacts:
1. From within Outlook, go to File > Import and Export...
2. Select Export to a file and then click Next
3. Select Personal Folder File (.pst) and then click Next
4. Select Contacts and then click Next
5. Leave the options at their default values and select the folder to export your files to.
6. Click Finish
Similar process to import from that file, but you need to use the Import from another program or file option in Step 2.
