I know there have been a lot of questions about using MyFaves on non MyFaves phones, so here is the deal:

Will it work?

Yes, you can use MyFaves on a non-MyFaves phone. Here are the differences between you using MyFaves on a non-MyFaves vs. a T-mobile branded MyFaves phone.

1. The only difference is the fact that you will not have the MyFaves interface on the phone you get. This interface is helpful, yet in no way is it necessary. It allows you to change your Fave Five from your phone, as well as have easy main-screen access to those 5 people

So if I get MyFaves on an unlocked phone, will I still get unlimited calls to those 5 people?

Yes, you will.

Since I can't use my phone to change the numbers, how can I change my Fave Five once every calender month?

Actually, you can use your phone. You can get on to the T-zones WAP portal (mobile internet) and change the 5 numbers through that (once a calender month). You can also call Customer Care, or do it via MyT-mobile.com. Neither of these ways of switching your 5 numbers is a hassle...it is still easy and convenient to do, so no worries there.

I heard T-mobile will get you in trouble if you use a non MyFaves phone?

Wrong. Although when MyFaves was launched they said they would not allow it, they have an will not take any steps to stop you from using a non MyFaves branded phone.

T-mobile wont sell me a MyFaves plan without a MyFaves phone, what should I do?

Tell them you have one at home. Or buy a cheap pre-paid phone that has MyFaves. You can also get a regular plan, with a non-MyFaves phone, and then go to the support section on MyT-mobile.com, change your phone to a MyFaves capable phone, and then change your plan to a MyFaves plan. Simple as that.

Hope this clears up any and all MyFaves questions involving non-MyFaves branded phones. If there are any more, feel free to post them here.

I wish Howard Forums had a thread as detailed as this on the subject. I am glad this is hear to cut down on posts on this topic. Great Post!

There's a thread over at xda about getting the MyFaves app running on windows mobile devices in the Kaiser forum. Some people have had more success than others, and as I don't have MyFaves I can't test it out.

Not sure about posting threads to other forums on this site, so I haven't posted a link.

I see there are other posts to xda, so here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=371649&highlight=myfaves) is the thread.

I don't know who told you that, but there are quite a few people that are using MyFaves on non-MyFaves phones. They just don't have the java based app on their phone to change the numbers. That's pretty much the difference between the phones. Now, the salespeople are going to want to sell you the MyFaves phone, but as has been suggested above just tell them that you already have one at home and would like a different device.

As per usual a rep on the phone had something different to say on this subject. She said that you can do it..in the sense that it is possible..but she said to be careful and watch your minute usage. If for some reason it doesn't come up as one of your fave five that you are calling and you don't have a myfaves enabled phone, then you will be responsible for the minutes used.

once again ...T-mobile = inconsistent customer care :^(

I have a Pantech Duo (originally for AT&T) with a myFaves plan and it's worked fine. All minutes used to those people are counted as myFaves mins.
