2GB or 8GB memory card?

I just got a new t-mobile curve which is awesome but to download videos and music i need to buy a memory card. Im stuck between a 2G or an 8G. The 8G of course holds more but it is 130$ while the 2G is 45$. I was thinking of filling up the 2G then get the 8G later on. Keep in mind that not all microSD slots are created equal. "Regular" microSD cards top out at the 2 GB capacity; the 4 and 8 GB cards are technically SDHC (high capacity). I'm pretty sure the Curve doesn't support this and T-Mobile's web site doesn't do much to explain the situation either.

I don't know exactly what happens if you put an 8 gig card into it -- maybe it doesn't read it at all, maybe only sees some of the data? I know for sure that the Nokia 5300 doesn't support them. I'd go with a 2 GB card for now. In theory, a firmware update could fix this but there's no guarantee they'll ever release one.

Okay sorry, I lied. After a little more googling, it looks like the Curve does in fact support SDHC:

Even if the Curve supports SDHC I would go with the 2gb. Should be enough space. Unless the person wants to watch full movies on the Curve.

but the capacity only accepts up to 2.7GB, kinda lame

Not to steal this thread, but does anyone know if the Dash can handle the SDHC cards like the 6GB or 8GB? If this should be moved or a new thread created please advise Admin(s).

The cost of early adoption!

Look at the prices in the quoted area. Now (01/2010) a 16 GB microSDHC Class 4 can be had for 50% of the price quoted for the 8GB. It's amazing what 26 months will do to a technology item's price and placement in the product line. I include 8 GB microSDHC cards with some of the phones I sell and feel like I'm not offering a top notch package. :rolleyes:

I have filled 8 GB cards with music, applications and paperwork. I just recently maxed out my first 16 GB card with music, a movie and applications. I will be buying a 32GB card when the price point falls below $100 if I have a device that will recognize it. I'm betting a lot of phones will recognize them. I have a Nokia 6290 (LJPRM-176 <Approved Jan 16, 2007>, 3.03 firmware) that is supposed to only recognize 2 GB that works with and fully recognizes an 8 GB card just fine. It chokes on the 16GB cards, the phone won't even fully boot.:)

You can use 2GB it is enough for your, but if are heavy net user then you should go for the 8GB. i know its costly but 8GB can help you to download more file and its simple to your arrange data.
