View Full Version : Declined
I recently interviewed with two different companies recently and I thought they went exceedingly well. I built a connection with the interviewers and they seemed to be having a great time. However, they didn't end up inviting me back for another interview. Has this ever happened to any of you? You think the interview went awesome and then the company declines a second interview? UGH...it's so frustrating because I want to know why and of course, they won't tell you.

It's frustrating, because you want to know what went wrong, but sometimes it's nothing -- they really liked you, but there just happened to be someone else with more experience, different skills, etc.
The good news is, as long as you're having interviews that seem like they are going well, it's just a matter of time. On the other hand, if you go to interview after interview and they all seem to go terribly, that's a sign that you might need to reconsider your strategy.
Good luck!

Yea, This has happened to me before. And when you try to determine why another applicant was chosen you never get a straight answer. Generally in an interview I can tell when I am not interested and/or the interview is going south.
I've got a couple offers already but I really have started asking if they have any reservations or concerns about taking the next step with me as a candidate. I should have been asking that question at the end of the interview from day one.

Probably a good plan.

I thought about that but figured it was to pushy.

How about getting offered the second interview, but never getting the phone call with the details of when and where?
Happened to me once. I even followed up to make it easy on them, and they kept putting me off. VERY frustrating.

Haha...you've got to be kidding me?!?! A company actually did this to you? Which one was it?

Yeah it wasn't anything major. A spot over at a Circuit City. I was still pretty mad though.

I had a similar experience with T-Mobile. I was interviewed and it seemed like I may be made an offer, but was never contacted after that. It was a Tech Support position and I had no prior experience, so I figure they found an experienced candidate. I have decided to try for a retail sales position as I am experienced in sales. If at first you don't succeed...... Anyhow, I know you will find a position that is right for you. Everything happens for a reason.
FYI: Did you know one of our most accomplished Presidents lost 7 elections prior to being voted into office? Yup, Abraham Lincoln.

Yeah I found a job right after that so I wasn't out for too long. I want to get a job doing something that will be a good job for a few years until school is over. Like a job at a bank or at a cell phone company.

I've been through that this year, with Amtrak. I took the written tests (which are good for 2 years) earlier this year and passed with honors, got my Conductor's Certification in Feb (Modoc RR Academy in Sacramento), and have been interviewed twice for Assistant Conductor positions this year (first time in Feb for Sacramento, 2nd time in Sep for Oakland), and been turned down twice. I will keep plugging away though, I'm qualified, it's what I've always wanted to do and the railroads are booming and hiring like crazy, it's just a matter of time until I get it.
