View Full Version : What the heck happened to the site?

Now it's CellPhoneSignal instead of T-MobileSignal, the colors are different and it's for all cell carriers instead of just T-Mobile, what happened?
Edit-Is the site just another HowardForums now? I mean, I don't mind having multiple carriers being discussed, I have multiple ones myself, but it's a radical change from just a few hours ago. Did T-Mobile not like the site having their name in it?

Over the next few days, everyone will be seeing some new updates, as well as a few changes, that are occurring with the site. Please be patient with the process. If anyone has any problems, or concerns, please feel free to post them here, or send a PM to one of the forum leaders. Thanks.

Railroader....
I understand your desire as well as my own to not have this site turn into another Howardforums and I would be kidding myself if I ever said that every cell phone forum isn't a competitor to hofo. However, the formula that made T-mobilesignal work can make Cellphonesignal work as well and allow it to grow and prosper beyond what Tmobilesignal was able to achieve.
Allow us some time to prove that this site is not just another wireless forum and that we can establish a forum whose guidelines and principles allow for the best wireless forum experience possible.
Hey guys,
I just sent out an announcement. I loved the T-MobileSignal name. However, I felt I could capture even a larger audience by creating a universal cell phone forum. Although, I wanted to make sure it was different from HOFO and the others. Therefore, I spent the extra time and money to create distinct designs for each of the 4 main carriers. This site gives everyone a home now.

I was a surprise but it can work. I was surprised to see that with a new forum didn't come a for sale section but I know that takes time for rules and stuff. Not sure if I'm feeling the purple but it may grow on my.
EDIT: I like how each cell provider has their own color.

I don't like the changes. I came here because the forum was specific to T-Mobile. I could click on "New Posts" and every post was relevant to my carrier. Now I have to sort through everything just like HoFo.

I was thinking the same thing. I came here a few times as I only signed up recently but it was specific to T-Mobile. This site will probably be just like HoFo but without the same number of members.

Well, keep in mind that the community is the same and, in my opinion, is a more positive and friendly environment. That alone differentiates us from HoFo. Also, let us know what you think, as far as ideas and suggestions. This is a big change, but it's definitely going to benefit everyone! Let us know how we can continue to improve what has, and will continue to be, an amazing community!!

Or better yet, since it is just us talking, can you guys/gals go into more detail about your concerns?
As this community has developed its own culture, do you feel the user base will out-pace the rich experience you have grown accustom to?

I can understand everyones concerns here, but I think it's important to remember that even HoFo as large as it is now, was once a small site like this one. There are many other wireless sites out there besides HoFo, and what sets them apart are members such as yourselves that get involved and contribute on a regular basis, with informative posts. If everyone did this, CellPhoneSignal will be among the best as well.

You can get everything specific to T-Mobile still. Each carrier has it's own distinct design and area on the forum. Consider it your own home. On HOFO, you have a general design for the entire forum and it's confusing because you are overwhelmed with so many subforums. At CellPhoneSignal, I've made sure to give each cell phone carrier their own community by creating different designs for each carrier.

Well. This surprised the heck out of me this morning. I am not sure I am a fan of this. I signed up here thru Alex and really liked the fact that T-sig was all about T-Mobile. A notice about this change would have been nice. I just hope this new format grows on me. I have been crusing around here for about an hour now and so far it is not clicking with me yet.

Can you give me some feedback on what you like/dislike? I still feel all the T-Mobile users have their own community. Does the structure need to change a little? I'm very open to all suggestions.

I guess to me all the extra you added is irrelevant. I came here for only one reason, so the addition is superfluous. Now I have to go out to the main CellPhoneSignal page to access all topics other than T-Mobile General and Technical. I then have to wade through any posts in topics like multimedia that do not apply to me as a T-Mobile customer.
Perhaps those areas that were taken out of the Carrier specific forum area could be put back?
Joe,
Cool suggestion! Can you provide me the structure of the forum then? I want to make sure I am clear on your idea. Thanks!

Well....My first reaction , I was a little disapointed, I joined Tsig because it was JUST TOMBILE, and it was afterwards that I found it just a cozy homey sorta place and EVERYONE was /is so nice and helpful. I liked it here, because I didn't have to worry about getting lost in the crowd of carriers and subforums. Thinking about it though, I will most probably just stick in the Tmo section of this one, because that is what pertains to me anyways, so I guess the other add ons shouldnt matter, and I'm willing to keep an open mind about it all. I like seeing the site grow. I'm willing to do whatever I can to help it grow and prosper. Although a little warning would have been nice LOL!! (unless I just missed it)

Sorry to hear that you don't like the changes, however the biggest difference between us and HoFo is our people, and not only that, the mods here have, and will continue to work hard on keeping the community as it is, because we recognize that as our strength, and a reason why so many users have joined. We'll do our best to keep the community as it is, without a doubt, because we know its what you all want.

To the Admin and others...
I feel you should not have made this change because you are specific to T-mobile.
It seems to me you made this change so you can be more popular. You can still be more popular by being specific to T-mobile.
One good example, look at the http://www.blackberryforums.com/ that is specific to Blackberrys and http://www.poweredbydanger.com/ (formerly known as HipTop) that is specific to Sidekicks.
I am sure you can also do the same for T-mobile and the forum.
If you really want to do it, than you should should have made several completely different websites that is specific to each carrier. AT&T can have it's own website, T-mobile can have it's own website, etc.
Now when I click on "new posts", I will get other posts from other carriers now.
Because of this change, I may stop coming here until I see what will become of this new website.
To people who think it will become HowardForums
I have to disagree. There's lots of other forums out there that covers cell phones in general just like HowardForums.
This new forum may or may not be successful with it's new changes but I really don't think it will be like HowardForums.
Keep in mind that HowardForums is based in Canada and the way they operate the forums is different than what I am used to. So I don't think it will be like them.
To others...
Because of the change, I am changing my mood to "sad" for one week.

it happens eventually
Alex asked me about the name and idea
but current there's a problem on wap version, which does not keep up with regular version
Secrecy-
I feel that this change was necessary in accordance with continuing to improve cell phone forums as a whole. How many times have you seen a new member on HOFO get ridiculed for asking a question? Myself and many of the moderators have seen this sort of unacceptable behavior all the time. I truly feel that I can create a better forum that appeals to all cell phone customers while providing a place on the forum that they can call home. Don't you feel every carrier should have a place where they can feel comfortable enough to ask questions? Don't you think every carrier should have a place to chat that is fun, positive, and friendly?
In addition, when you click on new posts you can view which forums the posts are from. This is no longer an issue.
In the end, it truly comes down to what plans I have for the site. My future plans for the site required me to create a place where all cell phone customers can interact within their own community and others.
I ask for your support in my endeavor. Give CellPhoneSignal a chance!

One problem I have had, was when going to CellPhoneSignal.com it shows that I am not logged it...but after clicking on a link, I am logged in, and then if I go back to the main page I am logged in, however, when I type the URL in the browser I am not. Anyone else having a similar problem?
Also, I think that the T-mobile portion of the site can stay how it was before. I know that a lot of people have a hard time accepting change, but I think this change will end up being better in the end. The mods will always remain an active, friendly part of this community, so the users have nothing to worry about. There wont be any unfair bans or punishments, and users wont have to worry about getting in trouble for no reason at all. The forums will be fair and friendly as they have been, as the T-mobile community, and CellPhoneSignal community grow as a whole. I hope that we don't have users leaving the T-mobile section, as we wouldn't want Verizon or AT&T overtaking us in posts;)
Edit: Another suggestion I have, is that somewhere near the top of the screen, have a link to each of the carriers, so users can jump from carrier to carrier fairly easily. I always clicked the icon in the top left corner to get back to where I wanted to go, but now if I want to stay in the T-mobile section, I can't click that. Otherwise, I do like the layout etc
And the DIGG button below the post is the first one I have seen that isn't ugly, it kinda goes with the forum

I agree wholeheartedly with Sassy's post of yesterday because those were many of the same reasons that attracted me to this forum, after I stumbled upon it. I liked that it dealt with T-Mo issues, phones, coverage, etc.; that it was smaller than many of the other forums and that the folks here were friendly and civil to one another. I think Alex has a good vision and it's obvious he has put a lot of thought and effort into it, so I hope on one hand that it grows, but on the other hand, that it doesn't grow too much because I want the friendliness, helpfulmindedness (if that's a word) and civility that have characterised this site to stay the same. And, I too don't believe it'll gow up to be like HOFO because a lot of what's discussed on there pertains to issues, phones, providers, etc., that are Canadian-specific and it's great to be a part of a forum that's devoted to US issues, providers, etc. But Alex, I gotta agree with some of the others...the purple has to go! Maybe......replace it with Ferrari red!?:D
I chose purple because no other cell phone carrier uses purple in their brand colors. Maybe I'll tone down the purple to a lighter color...would that make everyone happy again? :D

Alex, if cost is a factor for you at this time, I think the purple color that you are using now is perfectly fine. If I recall correctly, a lot of people complained about the T-Sig pink color as well, but once they all got used to it, the complaints stopped. I have seen worse colors on a wireless board.
Haha...now that you mention it, maybe I should put some green and yellow in the design. Maybe add a familiar face? :p JK!!!

I'm at a loss myself.I liked the fact that this site focused on T-Mobile issues and users.I think the people on T-Mobile Signal are great but they also post on HoFo as well.I can't see how this site is going to shake the impression of being a HoFo "mini-me".

I'm not so much concerned that this site will turn into another HOFO, I joined HOFO way back when I knew practaclly nothing about wireless phones and /or service. I learned alot from there, so much so that it was from there that I decided to go with Tmo2GO at the time.
What concerns me is that the 1000 plus users here like myself that joined this forum because it was Carrier Specific to Tmobile. In Alex's defense , I can understand his enthusiasm about the success of the site and his wanting to "spread the love" so to speak, but those of us who joined because it was soley Tmobile liked it because we didn't have to deal with all the other junk. Sure we can just specifically go to the Tmobile subforum here, before we didn't have to. (Mind you Alex, I'm not bashing here its just MHO)
Whether I or anyone else here posts on other forums is irrelevant, what IS relevant is what we expected when we joined THIS ONE.
Having said all that, like I said before I'm sure I'll get used to this, and already slowly I am, its only been a few days give it a shot.
Gawd I hope I don't get yelled at for this!

I'd be lying if i didnt say I was disappointed. I'm a member of HOFO but was elated when I found a site specific to tmobile. when I was with sprint I visited frequently and was happy because it was carrier specific to my carrier. this was the only site I knew of that was TMO specific...WAS. to me it took away the "tmobile family feel" in a way. to be honest I thought a site hack was happening when I would logon and get redirected.
I'll give it a chance and see how it goes but right now I dont have the same excitement as when I joined only a few weeks ago :(

How long will it take until "T-MobileSignal" is off of Google? It needs to say "CellPhoneSignal".
Everyone I can completely understand your disappointment with the changes to the website. However, it will not be another HOFO. Although many of the people here also post on HOFO, a lot have told me that CellPhoneSignal has more positive, fun, and friendly community. There will be some changes coming soon that will make it stand out even more from the other general cell phone forum sites. Like I've said before, I still feel T-Mobile users have a specific area in the forum that is theirs. I've even added more categories (split General Discussion into two). However, as you know, I'm always open to hearing your feedback and considering your suggestions. Is there anything you can suggest that would make the experience better for you? Please don't repeat previous suggestions...I've reviewed them all.

Could we have something at the bottom that we could choose the skin that we want to view?

What about the old links?
They are all over. They don't work.
Is there a way that you can redirect them to the right place?
Tonight I will go through all the links and change them.

Since the change, I noticed the forum is not as active as it used to be. As for new members signing up, it seems it stay the same.
I will wait and see what happen to this forum.
I honestly feel this is a natural change and I expected activity to decline shortly. However, that will change in a short amount of time. Lately, we've been experiencing some errors with posting. We're working to get all these resolved.

There are many new areas, so it might look like it is not as active. They need to fill out a little.
Exactly Tmobilefan! There are several areas now which may cause the site to look less active. However, it won't look that way for long!
Well, I believe all issues have been fixed except the link issue (old links linking to new domain location). If you find any other errors, please let me know! Thanks!
