I'm thinking about picking up a new toy for my travels. Anyone have any insight on this. I can read all the reviews of both out there and while the ds certainly beats the PSP in terms of popularity, I like the more mature titles of the PSP. Then again, I won't be playing it all that often when I'm home so I don't know if I care for the PSP so I don't feel the need to build up my nerd quality with a large library of games.

Thoughts?

You'll find a much larger selection of games on the DS, with more 'adult' titles there if you can get past the rainbow of colors. The brain age games are great, Puzzle Quest (game of the year in my opinion, and buggy as hell on the PSP), Hotel: Dusk, Brothers in Arms, etc.

The PSP is "nice", but the games it tries to play are tough to port over w/ only 1 analog stick. I'm extremely dissappointed that Sony didn't add another analog nub for the redesign. Feel free to PM me if you'd like more details. I worked at EB Games for 9 years up until two weeks ago :)

Two words. Mario Kart. Need I say more. I have a DS and only have 3 games and I use it around the house or when we go on trips.

I'm definitely leaning toward the ds but I was just giving open consideration.

I see Age of Empires is there, Advance Wars, its really to bad Battallion Wars is Wii only, I'd love to see it ported over to the DS as well...

I read somewhere online that the DS is 110 at EB right now with a 30 off if you trade in a game so I'm going to try and find confirmation on that and maybe pick one up. I'm in no rush but I'm definitely leaning toward it, seems like it has a larger global following. I don't really care to watch movies on the PSP or anything, I have my iphone for that!

as usual, for game purists nintendo is the way to go. For gadget head do it all folks sony wins hands down

I say psp for remote play on ps3, location free TV, and its connected to my tversity media server to access all my media from anywhere online. It plays the nice movies. To be honest, i dont use it for gaming so much :-)

I'm leaning toward the DS but I'm in no rush to go and pick one up, I don't really have any real need for it until Thanksgiving and traveling.

Unfortunately for both products that that article is over 2 years old and really doesn't take into account the new "lite" versions of each. I've seen by all means unscientific comparisons on youtube but they seem to be more biased as its user opinion more so than a professional outlet. I'll keep poking around and see what I can come up with.

DS has a great homebrew scene. I know there's a lot of development for the PSP, but Sony is always playing games with trying to re-lock the system... that stinks, since I think big companies should leverage the free effort that hackers are willing to put in to developing more software and making a platform more useful.

DS DS DS DS DS DS DS

Only game I'm playing for that damn PSP is Final Fantasy Tactics because I want to play it on the go. I bought the game, but no way in hell I want to own a PSP, so I borrowed my friends, she's disappointed with the PSP's lack of GOOD games.

I've had the original DS and the DS Lite when it came out, couldn't be happier. Only FFT is good on the PSP, even tho my boyfriend is complaining about the things they changed (aka making it worse than the original PS version), and I noticed it lags on menus sometimes.

I'm glad I don't own a PSP..lol.

Also, Phantom Hourglass is a great game, even more if you're a fan of the Zelda series. It's not that hard compared to like, Twilight Princess (which I'm still playing...tho I'm stuck atm), I completed it in a week. I found the whole revolving around the touch screen and stylus to be amazing and very well done. It's a shame that no 3rd party developer can make a game with such use of the touch screen.

Do you carry a laptop? A Wii controller, bluetooth, and an emulator can take you a long way.

If I could only choose one, I'd choose the DS. Moar gamez.

I think the PSP is actually too similar to the PS2 for it's own good...meaning it gets lots of PS2 ports and fewer original games. And many of it's "original" games end up on the PS2 anyway. So if you're looking for a portable PS2, by all means, buy a PSP. But if you don't want to keep playing the same games that you do at home, I think the DS is the clear choice.

It's also cheaper, as are its games, and it's more pocket friendly (the PSP redesign helps a little, but put that big beautiful screen into your pocket at your own risk).

I do have a laptop and it is my primary and sole computer. I've seen some of those mods and while they are damn cool, given all my problems with dell lately, I'm not going to do anything to further aggravate my laptop.

As for OS X, I really really want to pick up a macbook, however I'm also fighting for Dell to replace my laptop completely. I'm having a hard time coming to terms with buying a brand new machine when I may end up with a new machine anyway albeit not the one I really want.

I think it all comes down to personal preference.

Both systems are good and does different things.

If you planning to get it, I recommend do it quickly because the Nintendo DS Lite sells very well during Christmas time and you may find it out of stock. The Sony PSP Slim is new and that will also will be sold out during Christmas time.

Some of the improvements on the Sony PSP Lite is an ability to hook up to the t.v. and it is smaller. The battery life is longer if you get bigger battery for it.

Anyway, good luck! :)

Yeah, all I see on the PSP is remakes. The FF and FF2 especially disappoint me, because you can get the same thing in one cartridge for the GBA for like $30 (back when I got it) instead of having to pay $60 for both. Splitting it up into two separate games was just a bad move.

And I'm only playing the FF Tactics because I haven't played the original, I borrowed it, but I don't have time to sit at home all day and play on the ps2...

I bought my DS for Mario Kart and the online play. From there I bought the new Super Mario game and love it. My next game will be Tetris or Metriod, also for the online play. Also if any of your friends have a DS and the same games, you can play each other wirelessly, which is better than the GBA which took a cable. I don't know to much about the PSP besides they are expensive and the joystick breaks easily.
