here is the brief description

German telecom giant Deutsche Telekom AG has no intention of selling its U.S. wireless operations T-Mobile USA Inc., according to Rene Obermann, CEO of the international operator. Obermann reportedly told attendees at an industry conference that such a sale would be “short-sighted.”
T-Mobile USA has been a financial bright spot for DT, which purchased the business for $30 billion in 2001. T-Mobile USA has grown successfully even as its parent company has faced stiff competition in its home country.

Well THAT'S good news... (even though I never believed T-mo would be sold anyway... at least not right now).

Yeah. I own a fair bit of stock in DT...and I'm hoping they don't sell T-mobile USA...thats part of the reason I bought it in the first place!

people always freak about tmo usa being sold. it's just rumors people spread around constantly. tmo usa makes way to much money to just sell. it is one of the fastest growing companys constantly adding millions every quarter or so. i hate that every month people have to be constantly reassured that tmo usa is not going to be sold.

I gotta agree. There has never really been any evidence that T-mobile USA would sell...so I don't see why people freak out so much.

I also agree with that Nwahs, there has been nothing of any real concrete value that gives consideration to T-mobile being sold. We are presuming and probably rightfully so that because mega mergers are taking place around us that T-mobile will end up on the selling block. DT isn't going to put up their most profitable unit unless they can't maintain the company anymore. While T-mobile is pulling in cash and giving an infusion to a company thats bleeding money, selling off their biggest venture is a far away scenario. However, if DT cannot maintain their stock price and cash value they just might have to restructure and sell off assets. T-mobile just might be one of them.

yeah.......once Tmo introduces the UMTS.............they will be heavy competition with AT&T..............there won't be anydifference between the two except that AT&T has a lot more customers...........on the contrary..........i seem to remember there being a news article about Tmobile being interested in buying out smaller regional cellular providers.............it was so long ago that i doubt that i would be able to find the article but i'm sure some people here at this forum saw it

Exactly, last time I was sold to another company it made things even worse (thanks Cingular)!

Suncom is dying
Dobson will be partnered with T-Mobile USA eventually in order to get 3G service
Unicel and Centennial are unknown

I was so angry in the end of 2004 that DT was likely to sell US Division to Vodafone
this is 100% impossible, since Vodafone is DIRECT rival to DT (England, Germany, USA)
don't forget, vodafone also holds share of VZW, that FCC will turn red light on
and Vodafone has no interest on T-Mobile USA, and use words to mock the company (the US carrier has no 3G)
that I counter by using China Mobile, and frankly, China Government is pretty interested in US assets (I don't think China Mobile has interest in the national carrier has near 30 million customers)

AT&T seems to be dropping roaming agreements with Dobson as well because they are a very expensive carrier to roam on...........i also know that the SunCom thing has been going on for a while and no one has made a move yet but like everyone else has been saying............customers can be a very important thing for a company.....especially Tmo as that seems to be its goal; to gain more customers.....

You spend way too much time concerning yourself with 3g services and the effect it might have on a carriers strength in an industry. While the services are special and the gadgets are fun, the real value of these services have yet to avail themselves. T-mobile has a data arpu that runs counter to all of its rivals WITHOUT any sort of advanced data services.

In fact that may make a buyout MORE appealing, a new owner could take the company in new direction, spread different ways that may run counter to the other big carriers.

3g is not the end all be all of the wireless industry my friend. Just because you have a desire to see it come yesterday doesn't mean the rest of the user base does.

but like a point i made on another thread...those big 3G services wow their current customers and get them to talk to their friends about how great their company is and the great selection of phones and services......this will bring people to T-Mobile...........the company just needs wow factor to amaze the consumer cuz a companies greatest weapon is its customers............they help spread the company and make it bigger and stronger

T-Mobile seems (to me at least) to be in a buying position, not a selling one. They have already purchased some of Dobson, in the Michigan area IIRC and snatched up alot in the spectrum auction. I hope that they do eventually buy it Dobson, that would give them some needed rural coverage without Dobson's control.

we all don't know that
I think Dobson will join T-Mobile, and become a part of it (like Powertel, Omnipoint, Aerial)
since Dobson has 850 license in some markets, that brings big help on reception on these markets, along with 3G
SunCom is pretty unpredictable, but my guess is they finally join T-Mobile and become part of it too

True that, in my market, its all 850 for dobson. I force my phones to roam on Dobson when i have to tether for their EDGE coverage, of which T-Mo has none here.. As long as Dobson is gone, Ill be happy enough. Their switch to GSM was a fiasco, all they did initially was switch TDMA sites to GSM without regard for the limitations that GSM has, like tx/rx distance. Think swiss cheese lol. Not to mention Dobson's limited capacity, they must be the leader in dropped calls. I would hope that if they are included in the T-Mo conglomerate, standards would be raised.

yeah well this is nice and all but in the end we have to watch and see what the FCC has to say about it..........these theoretical mergers are wonderful but we have to consider the antitrust act..............

Suncom is on their way down the tubes anyway. Like someone said, maybe they're just waiting for them to go belly up and buy them at that point.
