I changed the title from something completely unrelated to the thread to something that is a direct question asked in the thread. If you are mad feel free to PM me, or you can request that I change it to something of your liking, but the reason I changed it from "lookkk" to what I did was for the convenience of everyone on the forum, as we ask users to have the thread titles relate to what the thread is about.

You have FiOS!
What do you think about it? Do you like it?
Can you give us your internet connection speed?
Do you have FiOS TV too?
How about the phone? FiOS phone, with the weather and everything??

I think I'm getting off topic...:p

tmobilefan let's stay on topic, unless the OP is interested in knowing about FIOS as well. If not I will be more than happy to send you a PM regarding FIOS. :)

I have 18 years of PC experience. The best computer I've had is the second desktop I listed in the other thread. I built it in 2003 and have only had to do minor upgrades throughout this whole time. It still beats a lot of the computers being made now.

Every review that I have read with regard to PC's, the home-built ones always come out on top.

My 500 MHz AMD-K6-2 desktop (dual-boot Linux/Windows) is home-built. :D

Home built
Athlon 64 X2 4200+
2gb DDR ram
GeForce 7800 GT (eventually I'll add a second)
300GB Maxtor Sata II (8mb cache)
Sony DVDRW
LiteON CDRW
2 19" CRTs (KDS and Viewsonic)
Windows XP Pro 64

Sadly right after I built it the newer Intels came out that smoked the AMDs (built in January 06, Intels shipped in April). I'm tempted to build a new rig, but I don't need to so I'll wait (plus I've spent way too much money in the last 7 or 8 months to justify dropping another grand plus on a computer upgrade I don't need). I'll probably get a matched pair of 19" LCDs soon though (if I can find a pair I like with DVI for under 500 total). I also have 2 other pcs (bedroom and server) and I just gave away another (really old, k62 400) and sold another (dell dimension 4100).

I know its off topic but, what distro are you running Edward?

I just feel like venting and stating during the past 5 days I have spent a total of 7 hours on the phone with Dell for "troubleshooting" issues and about 5.5 hours of that have been spent on hold or getting transferred to someone who speaks "english."

Their award winning customer service is a joke, their technical support is a joke and I will NEVER recommend nor purchase a Dell computer EVER again...

I'm so frustrated!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wow. I'm sorry that you bought a Dell. That's another reason why I would never buy a pre-built computer, except for laptops of course. The one pre-built I listed in the "what kind of computer do you have" thread was bought by my parents.

What's going on with your computer?

You know it really boils down to the fact that their customer service reps spend more time apologizing for the problem than troubleshooting it. I was promised a call back within 48 hours from monday afternoon regarding getting the laptop replaced and its not even what I want. I don't want to send it in, I don't want anything new or special, I just want it working. I've replaced the motherboard, the wireless card to no avail. I've rebooted the computer countless times and re-installed xp no less than a dozen times because after these clean installs it works for a week or two before reverting back to freezing and wireless issues. Three other computers in the house are dell and none suffer from the same issues and its just all very aggravating!

Are the drivers you used made for the model that you have? If not are they made for the components used in it? It could be that the drivers are causing a conflict. I've seen that happen before. In fact, I just installed XP Pro on my girlfriend's brother's Toshiba laptop, and it kept hanging because the program I had installed to get all of the Fn keys to work was not for his model. I spent well over 24hrs trying to find the right drivers for his laptop, since Toshiba doesn't support XP on most of the laptops that have Vista pre-installed. I found out that the hotkeys program(the one for the Fn keys) is model specific, so not all of them are going to work without the right one. I just deleted the program, and it works great. I would look around to find a spec sheet for yours to see what components are used, and try to get updated drivers for everything from the manufacturer of the components.

I've been quite on top of both updating and reinstalling all the drivers every time I reboot. I hate to rant about anything these days as I am trying to find myself "at peace," but this is just ridiculous. If I wasn't so worried about buying a macbook right now and then finding out a month from now a new model is available I'd have gone out weeks ago and picked one up. I guess I am going to go jump on the Apple bandwagon after this whole Dell charade. I know Apple has its fair share of problems and that their customer service isn't perfect however, having dealt with this scenario and the avoidance of fulfilling my current warranty, giving up the Internet altogether is looking great!

Edit: 2 hours and 3 minutes later......disconnected!!!

I love Dell. Always been solid for me. And at work we have about 75 of them working every day. Some with users that are a bit rough with computers.

I must say that the few Toshiba laptops that were purchased back in late '05 are the only ones to have complete failures.

Of the Dell laptops that have had issues. I have either had good experience with tech support/Mobile technicians or have had an easy time installing the parts provided through Dell to remedy the issue.
