Seeing as how we're rounding out 1000 members I thought I would finally get around to posting my idea for additional forums here on T-Sig. I had this idea a while ago and after sitting on it for over a week I still feel it's not too bad of an idea, although a bit different.
It has been suggested that sub-forums be added for Phones, 3G, and the like, which is all well and good but - contrary to what they're created for - I believe that it would create more clutter and micromanagement than is needed. Proof? Check out HowardForums... 700,000+ members strong. Each sub-forum for cell phones seems to have implemented a sub-forum for phones and separate services and the like. It seemed to have started in the CinguATT forum but now has spread to the T-Mobile forum - MODS HATE PEOPLE WHO POST IN THE WRONG FORUMS! And to a degree they are trying to keep the balance... I mean after all, why create a sub-forum if only half the people are going to post in it (thereby somewhat taking away from the point of it). Posts now get deleted in the T-Mo HoFo forum if they are about phones in the general forum, and the same still happens at CinguATT. So why not eliminate the hassle altogether?
If lots of posts in the general forum are too much clutter, yet subforums seem to generally be overlooked by many [noobs, lurkers, people who don't care, people who figure it'll get more attention in the main forum, etc.], then an all new system of forums needs to be created. It follows this general idea: If you have a "catch-all" forum like general discussion, then people will post there if they figure that their message can go anywhere they want it... so you eliminate the possibility. Here's a preliminary rough draft:
T-Mobile Phones
Current and upcoming phone discussion.Tech Support
Ask technical questions about your phone accessories, phone, or service here!T-Mobile Service
Discuss service/reception, data plans, voice plans, features, news articles, and any other service-centric issues here.Multimedia
Upload and download your favorite ringtones, themes, and wallpapers! Registered members only!Wireless News
Gossip about breaking wireless news!Get More
Talk about anything and everything not related to T-Mobile!There are pretty much two new forums and the removal of "General Discussion" but I thought I would lay all the main things out anyway. However, with these forums, we can funnel everybody with phone questions/discussions in one direction and everyone with T-Mobile industry news, coverage concerns, data plan discussions, etc in another. In this way, you can add a 3G sub-forum to "T-Mobile Services" but even if someone posted outside of the subforum it would be okay - considering it's still in the right category - a SERVICE T-Mobile offers, not a DEVICE.
This leaves much less micromanagement work for Alex and Nwahs to sort out... and all the phone spammers will likely go to the phone forum for easy-pickins' anyway ;) Everybody also doesn't have to deal with the "clutter" of sorting through topics about phones and topics about service, and once sub-forums start emerging, having to deal with posts both inside and out of them.
 Open for discussion
