T-Mobile USA adds to mid-range plan

T-Mobile USA Inc. instituted a set of new promotional price plans and expanded its offerings at the $40 price point.

The carrier added a $40 per month Get More 1,000 Plus individual plan that includes unlimited night and weekend calling but no mobile-to-mobile minutes. The carrier also introduced a 1,500-minute individual plan for at the same monthly price that does not include off-peak or mobile-to-mobile calling.

The pair of new offerings join T-Mobile’s 300-minute myFaves plan that includes unlimited off-peak calling at the—now crowded—$40 price point.

T-Mobile USA also brought back its family myFaves option with 1,000 monthly minutes and no off-peak or mobile-to-mobile calling for $60 per month.

T-Mobile messed up with that 2 year agreement requirement. I wanted this, but that 2 year contract scared me away. I won't be renewing, since I am month-to-month with my plan. I can't see being bound to a contract while saving $6 just from my current plan to this new plan.

Me either. I'm on a month-2-month deal too. I hate contracts!

I agree with you that 2 years is really a long time... BUT it MAY be worthwhile to consider switching plans if the customer: has been with T-mo for a while, knows that the service works well (and has been working well) everywhere he/she frequents, doesn't upgrade phones that often, and will save a significant amount in those 2 (or more) years after switching. For example, switching from the Get More 1000 Plus $49.99/mo plan to the promotional $39.99/mo plan will save the user $120/year (more if you count tax)!

For me, when I first signed up years ago, I got the same exact plan (different name) with a 1-year contract. Even if it was a 2-year contract, it wouldn't have mattered since I've been a T-mo customer for 5 years now (and 4+ of them was on that plan).

IMO, T-mo won't get rid of 2-year contracts until AT&T/Cingular and Verizon gets rid of it... and I know THAT's not happening anytime soon... especially since AT&T/Cingular just officially dropped 1-year contracts a couple weeks ago. Now it's either 2-year contracts, or no contracts (but no discounts/promotional plan features either). There have also been some hearsay unconfirmed rumors that a couple carriers (NOT T-mobile) are eyeing 3-year contracts, but I think that's just random speculation at this point.
