Some More Suggestions: Smileys, Help Forum, Increase PM's...

OMG THIS FORUM IS SOOOOO COOL!!!!! I LOVE THE COLORS, LOOK, FEEL, AND CARTOON SMILEYS!!! :D


A few suggestions though...


1) NEEDS MORE SMILEYS! Yup, you guessed it! IMO (although I'm probably a minority on this one), smileys are an important way of communicating with others on a forum. When people can only read text, sometimes it's confusing how certain words, phrases, or sentences should be taken. (When said face-to-face there's no issues since the other person can read body language, and when spoken over a phone, one can tell how the person feels by the tone, volume, and vocal language.) On a forum (or through an instant messaging service), many times users need to rely on "emoicons"/smileys or shorthand (ie: LOL) to tell how to take what is being written. Therefore, the more smileys there are that depict different human reactions and emotions, the better. (For starters, maybe the Admin wants to add: LOL, LMAO (harder laughing than LOL), and Crying (more sad than FROWN) at least.)

2) ADD A "HELP FORUM"! IMO, I think that the vast majority of posts on this Forum will reside in General Discussion, and 99.9% of those posts will fall into 2 catagories: "HELP ME PLEASE!", and General Discussion (which includes T-mo news/informational posts, opinion posts, curiosity polls, general wonderings, etc). It may be worthwhile to add a "HELP ME" Forum so that visitors that need technical help with T-mo's service, T-mo's phones, or just need advice on real-world situations can post there and be helped quicker (it's easier for Forum Regulars to answer questions in one catagory that's specifically dedicated to "help me" questions... at least it's easier for me). All other posts like: "What do you think about the RIZR Z3?", or "Will someone buy T-mo?", or "T-MO BRINGS BACK 1000 MIN + N&W = $39.99 PLAN!" will fall in the General Discussion catagory.

3) INCREASE PM MAILBOX TO AT LEAST 150! The 50 Message Limit (for both In & Out) is going to be way too small, especially after people start PMing each other asking questions and stuff...


That's all I can think of for now, but I'll post more suggestions later as I think of them! :)

I agree about the smiley thing...they really do help express the tone of a sentence

EDIT: And also, can someone get rid of the Image Limitation Per Post? I got this error message when I tried to post "too many" smileys: You have included 11 images in your message. You are limited to using 4 images so please go back and correct the problem and then continue again.

Maybe the limit can be raised to AT LEAST 7 or something...???

Great suggestions chokaay! The limit has been changed to 10 images per post. Also, I have raised the private message storage limit to 100 messages. I've added the smilies but they aren't coming in for some reason. I'll troubleshoot this evening. Also, I added a Wireless News area. I believe the Help section kinda interweaves with the Manufacturers section. Most people will be asking questions about their particular phone in that section, don't ya think?

awesome ideas i was dreding the 50 pm thing. i would have to empty that a time or 2 a day. didnt even think to suggest it here. doh... i ran into the 4 image limit as well, 10 should do it.

And yeah, maybe some people will post in the Manufacturers section, but more often than not, the average person is probably going to post where they frequent most (if it's not obvious where to post those "HELP" questions), and that'll probably be in the General Discussion Forum. In fact, I didn't even THINK about posting "HELP" questions in the Manufacturers section... I thought that was more for "When is a new phone coming out?" or "New Motorola Review!!!" or other news and reviews and questions about phones and their accessories... not Technical Support Questions. :confused:


EDIT: And what if a visitor has a question about T-mo's service, customer service, billing, rate plans, coverage, etc? Would those go into General Discussion?

Ok guys I found this little nifty semi free program I've had it for a while just never tested it out much cept on email, but you can use the smileys in the forum too, you just have to set it to the right format [IMG]
but if you want it, its Smileycons® Free Smileys, Emoticons, and Animations For Your Email. Works with Windows Live Messenger and Smileys for Windows Vista (http://www.smileycons.com) . There doesnt seem to be any spyware or junk with it. You get a semi good variety of smileys for free and more if you "register" and purchase a key (which I wont free is good enough lol)

Is it safe to download? I have used Free Smilies, 100% Adware and Spyware Free Smileys, MySpace Graphics (http://www.thesmilies.com) for a few days because there is no download. I know I was going to get Smiley Central, but members on here said that it was not good to download.
