First off: upgrade to Windows Mobile 6 HERE (http://t-mobile.com/wmupgrade). It is recommended that you remove your memory card and hard reset your phone before doing this upgrade. Hard reset can be found at start/accessories/clear storage.
This upgrade will also delete everything on your phone. If you have pictures, videos, music, contacts saved you need to save them to a pc or a memory card before the upgrade. There is also a known issue that happens when the upgrade is done on a Windows Vista pc. It will not work the first time you try. Dont disconnect the phone just run the application again and it will work the second time.

Second, you need to application unlock your phone. This allows you to install 3rd party applications. App unlock can be found HERE (http://mobile.surrealnetworks.com/DashApps.htm)
Some other great applications can be found there as well. Some will be mentioned later.

Installing Applications:
There are two ways to install applications on the Dash. One type is .cab files. These files are to be placed on the phone itself. Then open the File Explorer, find the file and click it. it will automatically install. The second type are Windows Installers. Connect your phone to your pc and run Activesync (activesync is on the disk that came with the phone). Then find the file on your pc and click it.

Ringtones:
You can use .mp3 ringtones. The mp3s can be placed into the phone or on a memory card. For the phone use file explorer and cut and paste the mp3 into My Device/Application Data/Sounds folder. Mp3s on the storage card must be placed in the root folder of the card. In other words they cannot be in a folder.

Games:
Nintendo emulator and roms(games) can be found at the surrealnetworks link above.
Buttons: A=p B=o start=h select=g d-pad for directions
Java games can be found HERE (http://getjar.com)
Nine Hole Golf can be found HERE (http://dashapps.googlepages.com) along with other apps to be mentioned later.

FREE Exchange Email
Sign up for a free exchange email addres at mail2web.com - Pick Up Your Email (http://www.mail2web.com). You will be able to get your emails in real time through direct push technology. In other words when the email hits your inbox it is pushed out directly to your phone. No need to send/receive. You can also use the email aggregator to retrieve email from other addresses you have once an hour.

Jogbar:
To enable the jogbar to be used as a scrollbar, download the Set Jogbar app at surrealnetworks. Or you can download a registry editor from surreal or the googlepages sites and navigate to HKCU\ControlPanel\JogBar\Settings\SwitchToAudioFun c Change the value to 0(zero)
Jogbar use: Once you have installed the app or done the registry change the jogbar will now scroll up and down or launch applications.
To scroll place your finger at the top/bottom and move it down/up. You can also use continuos scroll by scrolling down once, quicly take your finger off and scroll again but this time hold your finger on the bar. Doubletap the middle of the bar for "enter".
Double tapping the top/bottom portion will launch any application you have set it to with the jogbar app or by doing this registry change.
Bottom JOGGR "Button"
HKCU\ControlPanel\JogBar\Settings\BottomKeyApplica tionName
and
HK_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\JobBar\Settings\Botto mKeyAppParameter

Top JOGGR "Button"
HK_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\JobBar\Settings\TopKe yApplicationName
and
HK_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\JobBar\Settings\TopKe yAppParameter

Alarm:
Dont use the alarm that is on the Dash. Once you turn off an alarm you have set, it will continue to go off everyday at that time. Use a 3rd party alarm like the Snooze Alarm at the googlepages link.

Speed Tweak:
Download and run the Glyphcache app at surrealnetworks link, or with registry editor change HKLM\System\GDI\Glyphcache\limit from 16384 to 65535.

Media Player:
Download TCPMP at surrealnetworks link. It is the best media player and plays many more file types than Windows Media Player. To set the file associations, in the app go to Options/Settings/Select page/File Associations and select what type of files you want TCPMP to be the default player for. Dont forget to download the extra plug-ins.

Registry Changes:
To change your IE homepage go to
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\aboutURLs\ change home_0409 to your home page.

To enable Voice Command over Bluetooth go to
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Bluetooth\Audiogateway\BTA GExtModule and chage it to \Windows\vcbthag.dll (those are Ls not i)

Stop Windows Media Player from rotating in fullscreen mode got to
HKLM\System\GDI add a new "key" named Rotation go into it and add a "dword" named LandscapeMode and set the value to 0(zero)

New Office Document:
On the Dash there is nowhere to open a new Word or Excell document. You can either save a blank one to your phone and use that or you can install the NewDoc app. attached at the bottom of this post.

Inbox Extender:
This will add "mark all as read" and "delete all" in your SMS, MMS, Email. Attached at bottom.

Tips:
To page up/down in Internet Explorer use 2 and 8 buttons.
To change profiles and get comm manager quickly press power button but dont hold it.
To disable the xT9 predictive text push alt+spacebar and change it.
To use the alt symbols on the keyboard you can press alt+key or you can just hold down the key and it will select the alt. symbol.
To turn off the LEDs use Dont Forget found at googlepages link.
To increase the MMS sending limit from 300k to 1200 kb navigate with registry editor to
HKLM/Software/Arcsoft MMS UA/Config/UI/SizeLimit/Wap2sendLimit1 change from 307200 to 1228800

Opera Mini:
Opera mini is a wap browser. It is considerably faster than IE. Download it HERE (http://mini.opera.com). It will then be located in start/applications/java apps.

ORB:
Orb is an application that runs on your computer that allows you to view any picture or document on the pc remotely from your phone.. You can also listen to any music or view any video you have on your pc. There are also links to many streaming radio stations. You can also view YouTube, Google. etc... videos with the app. Orb can be downloaded HERE. (http://www.orb.com) It is accessed from the browser on your phone at Orb Login (http://www.mycast.orb.com)

WM6 Memory Issues:
With the Windows Mobile 6 people are reporting low program memory issues. To free up some memory on your phone you can turn off the Voice Command application if you dont use it. You can also stop the My5app from starting up everytime you reboot your phone if you do not use MyFaves.. To do this, navigate with file explorer to
My Device/Windows/Startup and cut out the My5app and paste it somewhere else. Dont delete it as you may change your mind and get MyFaves and will then need that file.
You can also use Oxios Memory found HERE. (http://oxios.com/memory)
It has 2 applications. 1 Hibernate: This simulates a low battery command to your applications that force them to release some program memory. 2 Close apps: This will close all running applications. After installation these apps can be found in Start/Accessories. I recommend assigning these to a speed dial for ease of use.

Backgrounds:
To make any picture you want to use as a background on the home screen fit the screen perfectly, resize the the image to 320x214.
To change the start menu background follow the instructions HERE (http://www.jamerican.net/JJFiles/Dash/StartMenuBG/Instructions.txt)
To change the in-call and dial screen background
1. Copy \Windows\BackgroundImage_Land.bmp and \Windows\_BackgroundImage_Land.bmp to your PC or a backup folder in
case you want to restore these in the future.
2. Make images with dimensions of 320 x 186 with the same names as the files above.
3. Copy the new images back to the \Windows\ folder and overwrite the old files.
To change the font of the incall and dial screen go to
HKLM/Security/Phone/Skin/Progress/Landscape and Portrait/Text/Text color
Change both values
100 = maroon
500= bright red
20000= Dark Green
50000 = Bright green
100000 = Olive green
Only draw back is the incall screen font is default black untill you hit "Answer" key.
Still looking for a fix for this.

Disassembly Video:
Here is a link to a video that shows you how to disassemble the Dash for repairs. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FI6bZ3L-hE0

Thanks so much, but I did not see the regular nintendo on it either:(
Also, does app unlocking affect the dash in any way? it still works as a cell phone, right?
I have the equipment protection, but would it be void if the dash is app unlocked?
Also, what is the difference between T-mobile hotspot, and its internet: can't you just use a home wi-fi for free?
sorry im asking alot of questions, thanks again.

redwildbeast, can you explain a little how the mail2web works. i need to set up a dash for my g/f who has 3 different email accounts. one is just a yahoo email which can be set up pretty easy.. but the other two are work emails. she gets those emails by logging onto her two company websites. i'd like to set it up with direct push so she would automatically get all the email. thanks

once you sign up at mail2web go into your account online. there you should find "email settings" and the maill aggregator should be there. activate it and then it will ask for all the settings and info for the email addresses she wants to download from. it only goes and "grabs" the email once an hour. so it is not realtime on the aggregated addresses. but if she can forward her emails they will forward to the mail2web address and they will show up in realtime.

the regular nintendo is called pocket nestor plus.
the app unlock only allows you to install 3rd party applications it has no other effect on the dash.
it wont void the warranty and if you have to send it in do a hard reset before you send the phone in to t-mobile.
the hot spots are only in like starbucks. the internet is basically anywhere you have phone signal you have internet and no you dont have to have a internet plan to use your home wifi.

thanks for your answer.. question.. where does the direct push come into play? will i need to activate that on the Dash? if doing so, will emails get 'grabbed' more often, depending on how i set it up? i guess if she can 'forward' the emails, mail2web will forward them regarless of directpush? thanks. go to your comm manager and click activesync. there you will set it up with the email info for the mail2web address. after you are all set up you can turn on the directpush. anytime an email gets in the inbox at the mail2web address it will automatically download to yuor phone. so if you have the aggregator set up it will grab those emails once an hour and send em to your phone. any email forwarding or going to the mail2web address will download to the phone as soon as they are in the mail2web inbox.

I am afraid that I ruined my dash,
1. how do you hard reset?
2. how do you install apps from surreal networks, form the dash net, or fom active sync?

I am afraid that I ruined my dash,
1. how do you hard reset?
2. how do you install apps from surreal networks, form the dash net, or fom active sync?

1. If you can get on the phone, go to Start>Accessories>Clear Storage and follow the prompts to do a hard reset.

If you have no screen, follow these instructions to a T (it took me a couple of attempts to get it right):
Step One: Power off phone (phone should not be plugged into anything)

Step Two:
Press and hold down both soft keys...while going to step 3

Step Three:
Press the power Button and hold for no more than 2 sec while holding the two soft keys (do not hold the power button until the phone turns on) ONLY PRESS THE POWER BUTTON, DO NOT TURN THE PHONE ON. After pressing the power key keep your fingers on the Two Soft keys until you see the phone turn on and a prompt.

2. You can install apps either way, I prefer directly thru my phone (just d/l and install), as it is much easier, but either way works for most d/l's.

2. how do you install apps from surreal networks, form the dash net, or fom active sync?

all the apps at surreal are cab files so you can d/l directly from the net on your dash or you can d/l to pc and activesync to the dash. either way works.

there are a few hundred. that is the answer to both of the questions. you can always google anything you are looking for and usually find it. all of the sites in the credits in th OP have various applications in .cab format. at getjar.com they have a bunch of java based calculators.

Can you explain how to assign applicaitons to a speed dial number? im guessing you mean when you would dial a programmed speed dial number, the app would open.. as opposed to clicking start/accessories etc. thanks very much for the info.

yes it is just like that. all you have to do is goto start/accessories and highlight the app then hit the right softkey and it gives you the option to assign a speed dial number. pick what you want and you are all done. now from the home screen just hold down the number and poof, magic.

lol. thanks.. i had already figured out how to assign the apps to a specific number.. it is the "poof" part that doesnt seem to be working. when i hold down the speed dial number like i would to dial a number, nothing happends.. does it only work for apps in start/accessories or any app from the start menu forward? thanks.

btw, in regards to that scrambled paragraph in your sig, ive seen something like that before, but it is truely amazing how that is readable.. guess that's why people can read my writing sometimes! lol. take care.

If you go to windows mobile 6, this is a tweak to increase the speed of file transfers from the pc to the dash. Menu, settings, connections, more, "USB to PC". Enable the advanced network functionality. Or menu, settings, 6 7 4. lol) Do it when NOT connected to a pc. This should help a lot if your having speed issues.

redwildebeast
06-26-2007, 09:18 PM
backdoc7 the speed dial should work for all programs in the start menu. i guess try clearing it and reassigning the speed dial. maybe that will get it working.

This is probably an amateur question, but i was wondering if i have copied all my contacts from my sim card to my phone and still have my contacts on my sim card, how do i hide all my sim card contacts in the contact list. i dont want it to show double entries. (ie. one contact entry on the phone and one on the sim card)

The only thing i can think of is deleting all the contacts on my sim card...but i am hesitant to do this because i have another phone i use when i go camping etc.

if i patched my rogers htc with the tmobile 6 what would the side effects be.

would i need to put all the rogers setting for the internet using the edge network?

would the phone be completely tmobile branded?

thanks!

ok so let's say i went ahead and flashed it to WM6 and i have a problem with the phone, hardware-wise...before i take it back to Rogers i would have to flash it back to WM5 so i dont appear to void my warranty. Is it possible to flash the phone back to WM5. If so, how would i do this. (probably using the original CD?

The one problem i do have with this phone is when i get a text message, maybe 1 out of every 20 SMS message it vibrates forever untill i turn it off....weird eh?

Thanks again redwildbeast, much appreciated.

one more problem i am having with the phone...

When I go to the contact list and hit say the letter "G" to search for all contacts with G in it i receive that just fine. Same with the rest of the alphabet. HOWEVER when i hit the letter "F" i get all contacts with "6". So basically i cannot search for contacts with "F" in it.

What a small annoying problem!

if i was a betting man, i bet it is a firmware issue.

i called rogers on the vibrate issue and the letter F issue. they said hardware, which in my opinion is a really amateur thing to say, considering that the htc firmware for wm5 is probably glitchy.

anyway i dont know if redwildbeast got sick of my questions, but he seems to be the expert!

you can flash back to WM5 easy if you can find the ship RUU for rogers. ill look around to see if i can find it for you. and the vibrate thing my phone did that a few times so i did a hard reset and it never happened again.

Can you give me some examples of what to reg edit the jogbar value to in order to make it launch an application? For example, I'd like to have it launch Java but I'm not sure what the value data should be and what to do in the app parameter section?

basically you put in the path name of the file you want to run. for java it is '\Windows\Start Menu\Applcations\Java Applications.lnk' for the parameter just put 'null'

yup thats the easiest way. if they have a card reader on the pc just put it on the card. if no card connect activesync click 'explore' , open the folder you want to put it in, open the folder the music is in on the pc and cut and paste to the phone, copy and paste to the phone, or just drag and drop it to the phone. pretty easy.

Does anyone know where in the reg. the "Speed Dail" program is? I want to change my #1 speed dail button to be my cell phone number so that I will have unlimted calling to my voicemail. Currently the #1 speed dail possition is programed to a (805) number and counts against my minutes. If I change it to my own phone number it will be included in my mobile to mobile plan.

Please help!!!!

I may have found a work-around for when your Dash keeps resetting when you power it up, and it sounds a bit odd:

When you get the first T-Mo screen, I popped my storage card out (not all the way out, but enough to get it dislodged) and had it out past the Windows Mobile screen. When the animated T-Mo screen comes on, I keep the card out until I see the bottom menu bar or the Loading wheel pop up. At that point, I pop the memory card in and then it finishes loading from there instead of resetting.

I see that this works due to the fact that after I pop the card back in, it loads up my homescreen that uses an image stored on the card and doesn't try reading the image from the phone itself.

Does any know how to make Sirius radio work on the dash. Before upgrading to wm6 i was able to listen to it just fine. i downloaded the app from surreal networks back then but tried it again for wm6 but it does not seem to work.

Just got my dash three weeks ago. I was wondering if there was a specific file that stores the calender information. I did a hard reset the other day and lost some important meeting times. I would like to simply store this file on my PC, instead of using the Outlook 2007(don't want to pay for it) and ActiveSync to back up this info. Any good back up apps, or help with any suggested files to back up to my PC would be greatly appreciated.

I know how to deactivate an alarm, but the dash has a peculiar quirk in that once an alarm (on the dash you can only set one alarm at a time) has been changed or altered, it is STILL activated. If I set an alarm for 545 monday, and change it to 615 for tuesday, tuesday morning will greet me with an alarm at 545 and 615. I've read in the forums that i need to unlock the phone (which i've done) but i don't know what the next step is to clear out all existing alarms and reminders before i install a 3rd party alarm clock app. I had seen the steps for such a procedure a few days ago on the forum, but now am unable to find it.

thanks.

thanks. You can use sk tools lite to clear the alarms. Get the lite version. THen go to "View" then Maintenance", then Notifications queue, action, then delete marked. (they should be marked already). Then restart the phone. (Tools, then main menu, then reset, then soft reset.)

Was just wondering if this was just me or if any other Dash owners noticed this too..

When I try to download a PDF (which, remember, we can view on it!), IE tells me that the file cannot be viewed on this device. How can we view them if we can't even download them; are we supposed to sync it from PC to our mem card then open it? :-(

Not to hi-jack this thread in the least, but has anyone been able to set their WM6 Dash to allow MMS messages more than 300k to be sent?

There is a link in the first post to a video on youtube that shows how to disassemble it to replace the LCD. I had redwildebeast add it to the FAQ a while back.

I have been able to make the change. It is also in the first post. Are you having trouble doing it?

I am sorry, just now getting back to this message....I have had troubles in getting the registry edit to stick. I could make the change all day, however I still am unable to send over 300k.

Any assistance is appreciated.

I know this is SUPER late...

You must have a registry editor such as PHM Reg Edit, or Resco Registry Editor to change these settings. (before making this change, your MMS should be properly set up) Go to HKLM/SOFTWARE/ArcSoft/ArcSoft MMS UA/Config/mm1/MMSCSettings/[yourMMSnamehere]. As far as the numeric values...the default should be 102400 (which is 100 X 1024). The 100 is representative of the 100K that the limit is currently set to. The new value should be changed to 307200 (300 X 1024). Change these values. After making the changes--reboot. From what I've read, make sure you don't use values higher than 300K. The effects may be detrimental to your device.

I wanted to get this RED Rubberized Case+Screen Guard For HTC T-Mobile Dash - eBay (item 300298639358 end time Apr-05-09 11:23:13 PDT) (http://cgi.ebay.com/RED-Rubberized-Case-Screen-Guard-For-HTC-T-Mobile-Dash_W0QQitemZ300298639358QQihZ020QQcategoryZ20336 QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp1713.m153.l1262?_trksid=p 1713.m153.l1262) cover for my Dash but, I heard that the dimensions for the Dash and the Black Dash, the one I got, are different. Is this true or not?
